Re: Report on 2022 vintage and tasting notes from Jane Anson is out
I do want to pick up Montrose & LLC, but won't be buying en-primeur this year...will wait to taste it after bottling. Can't understand the "great freshness" either tbh, unless the article on wine-searcher is pointing to the obvious answer https://www.wine-searcher.com/m/2023/05/bordeau...

Re: Report on 2022 vintage and tasting notes from Jane Anson is out
Fine+Rare have a comparison as well this year, https://www.frw.co.uk/campaign/en-primeur/bordeaux-2022/critic-score-comparison, as do Liv-ex https://www.liv-ex.com/news-insights/bordeaux-en-primeur-2022-critic-scores/. The acclaim for Cheval Blanc is pretty unanimous, definitely a contender for wine...

I have some reservation on this vintage...I've see mixed notes, but the price was more than fair.

"Off" vintages, in the context of the question, would include 2017, 2012, 2011, 07, 02, 99, 97, 94, 93, etc. I wouldn't include 1991, 92 or 2013 for instance, which were all round appalling. Nor would I include the likes of 2014, 08, 06, 04, which were moderately successful, in some appell...

Re: Bordeaux 2019 In Bottle Tasting at FarrVintners
Be prepared for 2020 vintage. I've already tasted some big and small and this vintage ticks all the boxes and more!! I’m sad that i did not buy any 2019 Calon Ségur… but glad I bought some 2020! The 2019 CS ABV is not too far off 15%...don't be too upset missing it. The 2020 is almost a percent low...

Mark, you're one lucky fellow. A truly outstanding tasting.
To think two of those wines are 70+ years old...and both 100 pointers to boot...wow!
I've yet to try an aged example, but have 14, 16 & 19 lying in wait.

Re: 2019 Vintage + Alcohol
Hello Everyone, For those who have tasted the 2019 vintage, how does the alcohol levels feel? I think a lot of the 2018's have a "hot" chatacter to them...does this happen with the 2019 wines? For some reason I remember reading somewhere about the 2019's also suffering from this, despite ...

Some very great information...thank you all! I was looking at picking up three of each: Gruaud Larose - 13.6% d'Issan - 13.3% d'Armailhac - 13.5% I feel much more comfortable on these purchases after the responses. Great choices, can't go wrong with any of these. Other's in around the same ABV are ...

Re: 2019 Vintage + Alcohol
Interesting that DDC was only 13% in 2019 especially as this estate has championed a more international style in the last 20 years - is this a pivot back to trying to replicate the great classic DDCs of four decades ago? I definitely think so Ian. The commentary from critics would support this, in ...

Highest ABV for the 2019 vintage - not a complete list by any means. Can be hard to find official figures for all estates, and indeed I've came across conflicting information for many wines. Has this just been a label change or is this a different wine? Same wine Jim...name was changed from Marquis de Calon (2012 last vintage) to Le Marquis de Calon Segur (2013 vintage). The estate refers to it as their Second Wine, but I understand that the majority comes from the same plot's year aft...

Compared to 18, I feel they have less power, and the alcohol even though less, is some times more evident. Just my thoughts. That's interesting Dan...I went deep on 2019, mainly due to pricing and perceived quality, but now I'm not so sure. I see a lot of notes pointing to the "lower" ABV...

Anyone have any thoughts on my question as to whether the 2016 Figeac is actually a good wine? Or whether Robert's trashing of recent Figeac as having sold out to the dark side for classification is justified? Based on a recent blind tasting ( https://www.farrvintners.com/blog/post.php?post=1736 ),...

I mean, we HAVE tasted a nice Lascombes here and there, no? To me, as much as I'm down on Lynch Bages, the most overrated wine in Bordeaux is Grand Puy Lacoste. I'll never forget that afternoon Nicola and I were in MacArthur's, and Phil Bernstein, without any leading whatsoever, said that GPL had b...

Grosset is the most well regarded producer but there are many good producers. Thanks Mark. Does Aussie Riesling age well, in general of course? Having said that, I think that except for Burgundy, Australia makes the best Chardonnay in the world and with no exceptions the best Riesling. We even make the occasional top Pinot Noir. Just not too often. I will admit I haven't had much Australian Riesling Mark, but I've had a fair amount of Germ...

Traceability of wine can be defined as a method through which anybody in the wine supply chain can be able to verify the origin and composition of wines and its conditions of storage.

I have never felt that the Saint Emilion was anything but a complete waste of time. To make it seem updated, they have included some pretty strange criteria including parking and social media prescence. In a different vein, I do not believe that any Médoc château lists its actual classification on the label, limiting the wording to “grand cru classé”. Things are not the same in Saint Emilion, where several châteaux put “premier cru classé”. However, I don’t think any of these have “A” or “B” along...

Conor, very interesting comments from Farr. I bought a fair amount of 2019s en primeur since they seemed a good bargain. Since then most of my purchases have been 2016s. Interesting for sure.
