Re: Lynch Bages smashes it out of the park in the 2018 vintage
Looking forward to a few more write ups of this - frustratingly brief considering the volume of wines tasted & size of the event. It is worth noting Izak, that it’s all blind and that result from Lynch is an aggregate score of the (pretty renowned) palates there and not Tom Parkers specific opin...

Good feedback - appreciate that. 14 SHL was my favourite wine last year - haven’t tried any from the bigger / riper vintages yet.
Enjoying your blog comte - managed to scroll back a decade or so to some of the financial stuff - really interesting (albeit a bit over my head!).

A couple of SHL 04’s have come up at auction here in oz. Anyone had one recently / think it’s worth a punt?

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Bit the bullet on another lot of 19’s
2 x Montrose
2 x Pichon Baron
2 x Leoville Barton.
Quite a big $ for me but I figure my future self will thank me.

Re: I have made my kind and benevolent decision on the wine of the year.
Forgive me Jim but I’ve read between the lines here and have taken the liberty of informing the Cazes family (who I know well) of both their spectacular achievement of BWE wine of year in 2021 for the 16 Lynch, and also their upcoming promotion to super second category in the new classification. Bri...

Re: What are we drinking in the booster boon?
The story behind duck muck is fairly interesting - will tell from memory but feel free to look it up to get the facts a bit straighter. ‘Duck’ was the vineyard owner & was a fairly typical rough and tumble, alcoholic Australian who had a vineyard mainly to make wine for him and his mates. One vi...

Re: What are we drinking in the booster boon?
Currently drinking a 2018 Roc de Cambes. Second night on this - it was almost undrinkable last night in its largesse, indeed I think it would have slot in nicely up against Marks duck muck. It’s settled down a bit tonight - actually tastes a bit more like Bordeaux but (without knowing where it might...

Re: Classic Bordeaux - Who Are The Remaining Stalwarts
What are your favorite vintages of GPL Ambrose? 06 GPL was the first Pauillac I ever tried. Not sure how that wine goes in context but I enjoyed it. Have tasted a few back vintages (03, 11, 13) but more particularly the 14 & 15 won me over. Bought a few 19’s as well. Joss Fowler (who I trust a ...

Re: Classic Bordeaux - Who Are The Remaining Stalwarts
Carbonnieux rouge in Graves maybe? Had the 16 recently, certainly not overworked / overblown.
Where does GPL sit?
Great list - a few there I’m now keen to try.

Yep that’s me, how on earth did you come across that? One of my better rants, still slowly trying to work my way up to ‘Jimhow discusses Lynch Bages’ level of quality & intensity!

Re: Hello from Western Australia
Erins great, I know her well & it has been awesome watching her career take off. Her passion is very genuine! In terms of a budget equivalent to art series I’m not too sure. Their ‘prelude’ comes in a fair bit cheaper but I haven’t had one for ages. I had a great Chardonnay from Larry Cherubino ...

Re: Hello from Western Australia
Thanks for the warm welcome - it is much appreciated. Nicklasss - I’m not quite in Perth but on a farm a few hundred miles out. My wife/kids and I do spend quite a lot of time in Perth and in the South West of the state (where the nicer weather, beaches, vineyards and forests are!). In terms of MR w...
