Speaking of FLA, I heard rumors that there was some Bordeaux consumed this past weekend in Ft. Lauderdale.... Wish it was me....I was actually going to take the Brightline down to Laudy for the '85/'86 Bordeaux tasting at Wine Watch this past weekend, but I ended up having the kids last minute....t...

Re: Bordeaux 2020 Southwold Tasting at FarrVintners

Drinking 2020 latour martillac If based on a tasting of this wine alone...Ian might be right about 2020. $35 at Trader Joe's, this is a tasty little beast... Juicy plum and some gravel notes, beautiful cedar note, nice firm tannins, but not overwhelming, some spice from the oak. Is the old school bo...

Re: Poll: Was Robert Parker a net positive or a net negative for Bordeaux?

robert goulet, I strongly disagree with your statement. I think that you are displaying a lack of respect for Robert Parker. It seems to me that you are venting your frustration and envy at not being able to taste wine as well as he can. I believe showing respect towards others, particularly those ...

Re: Poll: Was Robert Parker a net positive or a net negative for Bordeaux?

Very, very, very negative. The manner of his tastings led to his favorable impressions of exaggerated wines. His point scoring system is a travesty of the nuance that underlies the wonder of wines. His rating system trivialized comprehension of wine and brought non-knowledgeable consumers into the ...

Net positive! I can't follow Alex in his comments. Angelus, Pavie, Cos d'Estournel back then weren't the whole Bordeaux. HE DIDN*T MAKE THESE WINES! Imho, there is no equally gifted wine critic right now as him. Presently...My favorites by landslide over RP are William Kelley and (Not Pro) but Pro ...

2005 Angelus, RMP note Truly great stuff, this wine performed at a three-digit level both in the horizontal tasting of 2005s in Baltimore, as well as in Montreal at this mini-vertical. This sensational, opaque, bluish/purple wine offers up notes of vanillin, spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry...

Re: 2005 Bordeaux revisited.

I went long (for me) on 2005s and have about half of them left. It was the last year I bought based heavily on Parker reviews. I was a slow learner. Early hype gave way to concerns for excessive extraction. I drank a lot of the lesser ones and a few of the bigger names at 10-15 years. The overextra...

Thanks for the excellent notes Stuart, you don’t seem to have much luck with Lafite. When we did a much more modest Lafite vertical in 2018 we got lucky - every wine was on top form and the distinctive theme was the poise and sophistication of theses wines’ mid-palates, which is why for me it is fi...

1988 Pichon Lalande

Birthday dinner the other night with Orlando Bobby and the crew...My wine of the night was the '88 P. Lalande… Thought we had a dud here, the bottle looked in pristine shape, but the cork was a little faulty and expected the worst…no way sir, this was everything a classic Bordeaux lover seeks.
