Re: Poll: Should the Parker/Squires threads be deleted?

I, too, voted 'no'. Though I do wish we'd all move along...

1994 Gloria (St. Julien)

As per the order of our benevolent dictator , I am posting this TN on a good wine that I've had recently. At this point, I must beg you all not to be too harsh on the below, it's one of the first TNs that I ever tried to write up... To be precise, this wine was a (for me) rather old St. Julien; 1994...

Re: ROBERT PARKER HAS SUNK TO A NEW LOW

I followed, I think, almost all the threads on BWE, eBob and Beserkers. From my view, they can mostly be summed up as "negative critisism is fun to write and to read". Sure MS seems like a wanker, but why push the envelope on this? Just let it go and buid a better board. If you build it, t...

Ch. Gloria 1994 (St. Julien)

Hi all, I have a single bottle of this, and want to open it soon. How would you recommend to open this (i.e.: decanting needed?) I have almost no experience in (Bordeaux) wines that are this old, so it'll be an interesting experience... Also, if anybody has had this recently, I'd be very interested ...

Re: What are your top 3 vintages since 2000?

Definitely 2005. I liked 2004 (St. Emilion, Pomerol) a lot too. And if the current craze is anything to go by, then 2008 will complete the top-3...

*&$%$(*&$((%%%%$!

Heavily corked. It's not fair, no flavors that I could detect on nose or mouth. It's not fair.

Oh well, three minus one leaves two more attempts.

But it's not fair!

I've had the 2001 a couple of times over the last year and liked that too.

Re: 2000 Château Malescot St. Exupery

Interesting... I tend (almost) never to decant. Rather, I pop&pour while keeping tabs on the bottle over the course of the night. This is because I always fear the decanting and leaving it for a few hours might result in the bottle being 'downhill' when I actually try it. Maybe irrational, but d...

Re: 2000 Château Malescot St. Exupery

Great, thanks a lot for the opinions. My third one is expected to be ETA in about a month. So this seems like a nice wine to honor the occasion.... :D

2000 Château Malescot St. Exupery

Hi all,

I have 4 bottles of this lying around and am tempted to open one. Did anybody try one recently?

Re: First of first growths out: 2008 vintage

At Mark Squires' board , someone (not me) was able to almost perfectly articulate my feelings: the conversation here is mostly about the big players, speculators, large buyers and gives the dizzying feel of a trading pit... think of it from the average Joe's standpoint (aka "Joe the Wino")...

Re: First of first growths out: 2008 vintage

Oh, and I did buy about 10 cases in each of the 2006 and 2007 primeur campains. Maybe I can now get them a bit cheaper if i was to look for them. Does this bother me? No, actually now. At least I now know that I have what I want for the prices that I am comfortable with ('07 Sauternes anyone?). Exam...

Re: First of first growths out: 2008 vintage

ChrisW, Sure, it's easy to pass if you've got a cellar full of FGs. However, I am only collecting since '05 and as you "may know", the FGs were a bit more expensive in the primeur campaign back then. Seeing them now, for apparently a good vintage with some very good FGs, for a quarter or a...

Re: First of first growths out: 2008 vintage

I'm thinking of buying a few bottles of the Latour (assuming that it indeed comes out at about 150 euro for the consumer). Anybody else interested in buying some 2008 primeurs?

Re: 1984... thoughts?

I only know a few '84s, but the Angelus as well as the Canon la Gaffeliere were very good wines indeed. I wasn't too impressed with the Pichon Lalande, but I fully agree that it could simply have been an off-bottle. I've never had the Haut Brion, so I can't comment on it.

Re: 2006 Bordeaux?

It's still (quite) a bit over the expected '08 prices. And 2008 is likely to be better quality from what I hear (not tasted). So, I'd put my money in 2008.
