Re: ***Friday night convention dinner-March 30th
We've discussed options with Jay. And this will work fine. We can get a table near. And we'll be busy catching up. Now my freind is Alan Marshok. He was a part of owner Rochambeau and then Post wine. He is currently working for a small firm importing Burgundy. He is a "gem" of a guy and hi...

Re: ***Friday night convention dinner-March 30th
Hi: Susan and I are also planning to dine at Dino's. But close friends are taking the time to drive down and meet us Friday. We've not seen each other in a while and there wasn't room to include our friends. So we released our slots (which were filled from the wait list) and will be booking a privat...

Re: 'Natural' alcohol levels
That's an interesting point about yeasts, and it's not one I've seen talked about too much, at least not in the context of winemakers changing their yeast selections to crank up the volume. I was under the impression a lot of wines are produced with naturally occurring yeasts and while adding comme...

Re: 'Natural' alcohol levels
Aside from sugar levels , the biggest factor controlling alchohol level is the yeast attentenuation.
So it would be interesting to talk to the wine maker and see what has changed in production.

Personally I think you have to be very scientific about it. What blend of grapes used. What were growing conditions. Ad infinitum. Too many variables and small sample sizes to arrive at anything statistically meaningful. Then it is all down to personal opinions, some of which can be respected more t...

Well good one Howard. I'm just glad we are booked and all seem together. I have sold wine to a broker at times. I usually deliver in person as I like to resolve any issues in person with a handshake. While there he showed me some very suspicious bottles ofLafite. He was stuck with the bottles in a sense as passing them thru could damage his reputation. We discusseed them...

Hi Alex: I think the wine status symbols in the USA were not Bordeaux. But the boutique California wines sure were (Harlan,Screaming Eagle, Dalle Valla Maya,Dominus). I'm sure I left some out. I can't tell you how many times a new collector would brag about owning or tasting such wines, but had never...

Well one of my resolutions, good or bad, is to participate more. A Sommelier is looking for wines that pair well with dinner and do not upset the chef by getting more attention then the cuisine. Thus they are always on the hunt for moderatley priced wines that are accessible and don't take forever t...

I think there should be a couple of new categories. Baby Bordeaux (as in still has baby fat) and mature Bordeaux with at least 10 years bottle age.
Boxing has different weight classes why not this contest?
But Leoville Poyferre is always a great contender and worthy choice.

The 1994's got some initial high ratings and whih were later dropped. Hell, anything tasted great after 1992 and 1993.
Pomerol did fairly well and were bargains when inventory was cleared for 1995/1996.
I still a few that are nice to drink and you don't feel quilty at all.
