Re: Reminder: hotels for BWE '09: Time/Date Updated

In all seriousness, in large part because of the magic of Howard Mark Specter, one can spend three nights in a great town, at the peak week of the year, with a group of friends drinking some of the most incredible wines in the world, with great dinners each night, with reasonable air fares if you lo...

Ha ha HM$, don't worry, the Burgs will be relegated to the hotel rooms. I'm going to force a small taste of '05 Burg upon you though before the weekend is over.

Re: Reminder: hotels for BWE '09: Time/Date Updated

These are tremendous hotel rates for Cherry Blossom week in D.C., I hope that other BWEers take advantage of them while they're available. For example, I just checked and the room rates for those same nights on the Westin Grand website are $319 per night.

Still-high prices (Lynch $75, Mouton $630, etc., etc...) in a collapsed economy for a so-so vintage.
These people are like the Wall Street execs with their crazy bonuses: They just don't get it yet, do they.
There has got to be a crash coming, who is gonna buy all this stuff?

Re: Chateau Latour 2005 for $27 anyone?

The basic problem is that they now produce something like 30-40k cases of incredible wine from the best terroir on earth.
Amen, brother....

I've often said that that plot of land at the Latour/Las Cases border is literally the best terroir for wine grapes on Planet Earth.

We almost didn't have a Napa '02, which probably would have put the kabosh to the whole thing. But we did, and it is good to keep the tradition continuing.

(Don't worry, I'm not pressing for 2005 village Burgundy. Still, I think some sort of blind tasting event during the hour just prior to dinner-- the way David has it listed above-- is a BWE tradition that we should perpetuate.)

2004 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru (2/4/2009) This wine has been a pleasant surprise. I don't see any bitterness or unripeness here.
