Re: TN: 1990 Cos d'Estournel

Interesting that the 1990 should be ready to drink now.
I don't have any, but if I did I'd have been tempted to hold on to it.
I'll be interested to read your notes on the remaining bottles!

Re: Visit to DRC

Hi Stefan, I wrote a letter. But a letter in which each word was carefully chosen. I also sent a photo of me holding an empty bottle of 61 Romanée-Conti (bought for $ 16.99 in upstate New York in the early 70s...) and referred to the fact that my father had visited several decades ago. All the best,...

Visit to DRC

Although primarily a Bordeaux lover, I was nevertheless delighted to visit the Domaine de la Romanée Conti on Wednesday. This was the highlight of a ten-day trip to Burgundy, during which snow never left the ground. The domaine's cellars, located a stone's throw from the church in Vosne-Romanée, are...

Re: TN: Two Millennial Champagnes

Hi Chris, Thanks for your notes. I am coming to the conclusion that fine Champagne just needs lots of time. Fortunately, however, drinking it before its time is rarely as negative as, let's say, a fine red wine. I had an 85 Bollinger RD over Christmas. This was ready to go, but I should hope so afte...

Please, seeing as I am not familiar with Italian wines, can someone give me a thumbnail description of Orena in its context:

- reputation
- supposed aging potential

Jon,

Your experience is a great advertisment for French wines...

Not many wine producing countries can produce natural wines that are in such great form after three and four decades.

Re: 07 Domaine Ferrand CdP - question

There is buzz for the 07 vintage in CDP.
Simple as that.
People zero in on wines they are told are good (in this case, Parker) and many are willing to pay a significant premium for them.

However, are you sure about the price? It seems to be much more expensive here.

Enjoyed with Bresse chicken at lunch: Color: looking older than its age. Deep, with mahogany on the rim. I saw this article. I had a bunch of 2007s CDPs a week ago. They did not seem celestial to me, but then I am not really familiar with the appellation. One thing I will say, CDP wines have a decided advantage: they're good young, and they're good old. Also a bit "in your face". Wines for ou...

Thanks for sharing your notes.
Not one of St. Emilion's big movers and shakers, bu a dependabe wine in my experiencee.

I had a 2000 Bordeaux this weekend:

- 2000 Ch. Vernous

This was ready to drink.

It makes me think that many medium-range wines are OK to go.

These comments call for serious tasting down the line. Ideally, it would contain a mixture of vintages so that people's prejudices would not get the better of them. Yes, agreed, some wines are top-heavy and overly alcoholic. But that is not the be-all and end-all of the vintage! Best regards, Alex R.
