Re: TN: 2002 Château Lagrange St. Julien (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien)

Kudos go to Eric for CellarTracker and the export function, and to Phil for making it work with the board software.

Lagrange is a BWE favorite. Is the '02 one that needs a little more cellar time?

Re: 04 Kay Bros Amery Vinyards Hillside Shiraz has been uncorked

Exact same experience here, Brad. A lot of these wines are great on release as cocktail wines but just fall apart over time. I know one of our Oz posters gets incensed every time I say this, because it really is dependent on which wines you pick. I still love a Grange with age on it, but thre are a ...

Thanks, Roberto. I don't necessarily attach as negative a connotation to "New World" as some do. I was just curious/trying to calibrate with you because you mentioned that the fruit was not jammy - jammy fruit being a hallmark of New Worldiness in my mind. The other thing that often gets a...

Re: BWE DC '09 Dinner at Charlie Palmer Steak

Tom pointed out to me that there is no need to keep reposting the guest list - I can just edit the initial post. D'OH! Another advantage of the new BB software. So I've deleted all the out-of-date lists and updated the original post.

Re: Local TN's

Wow, what a collection of wines! Bummer about the Krug and L'Evangile - couple of shoulda-been-great bottles. I agree with you on the La Chapelle. A bottle drunk in its youth was awesome, then it shut down hard and has stayed in a shell ever since. I'm always looking for someone else's notes on this...

Actually this note was from almost 6 years ago. I just picked the first one I saw that had extended characters in order to test the CT posting fix. I am due to open another, maybe on our anniversary next month (Peg and I were married in '88).

Re: TN: 1988 Chteau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

This has been sitting in my temp-controlled cellar since release. The cork was soaked through and cruddy on the surface, but there was no ullage. That was a pop/pour note - it actually got a little longer on the palate after an hour or two. RP says this is getting old - I have to disagree.

I've dropped so many lists I can't remember them all. Some still send me offers. The toughest and last to go was Harlan - I really love that wine but the price just got silly. '88 Lynch is also excellent - better than expected from a non-vintage of the century. It showed very well at the BWE Lynch tasting in NYC.

That's Eszencia - hardly ferments at all. I've had a few bottles - not Oremus but Stanza, from 1996. Came in 100 ml bottles. Extreme is a good descriptor - agree with the massive intensity, sweetness and acidity. Amazing stuff, but is it really "wine" as we know it?
