Re: Extraordinary tasting in Copenhagen - Bx 1945 vintage

My understanding is that Rudy brought the 97 Petrus, which was my first ever taste of Petrus. But I could be mistaken.

However, Rudy would often bring the real wines to tastings and dinners like that. That was his M.O., bring the real stuff to establish credibility then sell the fake stuff later.

Re: Extraordinary tasting in Copenhagen - Bx 1945 vintage

I don't think anyone should take offense when discussing the authenticity of wines, it is a problem much larger than Rudy or Rodenstock. I have fake wines in my cellar that came from neither of those two, and with good stories of provenance. Thus it's a reasonable question to ask. That being said, i...

Re: What is your biggest score, missed opportunity?

This should be cross-posted to BWE memories thread, but I remember one of our biggest scores was during lunch prior to a BWE Convention in DC. We went to Bistrot du Coin, and in addition to a 1998 Petit Cheval for $99, the server said they had some wines not on the list. We ended up with a 1985 LLC ...

I must admit I had quite a few scores at Premier Cru (also lost a bunch in the bankruptcy and fraud). Lots of older California Cabs in particular.

Biggest score: 99 Lafleur being sold at the PA state stores for $53 a bottle. I had my sister running around to different state stores to buy them. I still have one bottle left from this one.

Biggest miss: 00 Lafleur at the same sale, for around $110 a bottle.

I poured myself a glass of single malt scotch the other night, and I confirmed that I really don't like scotch. I've tried great ones in the past, and much as I try to like it, I couldn't. I had to wash out the taste with a little bit of calvados.

1970 Ducru Beaucaillou I had pulled this wine for the BWE France dinner at Alex's, mostly due to an earlier thread that Stuart had started following his 1970 retrospective tasting.
