Re: 1953 Chateau Lafite

I have bought many older wines with low ullage. Ullage factors into the price. In general, I have found around an 80% hit rate of old wines with great levels, and perhaps a 60% hit rate of wines with ok levels. Wines with high fills can be damaged, and wines with low fills can be fine to great. It i...

Tim I think you are misunderstanding the Irish border comments I make and the the fact that more in nth Ireland voted against Brexit is no different from Scotland or London for that matter. The troubles in Northern Ireland may be over but sectarian views remain. If the Irish border is a central iss...

Re: UK newspaper urges readers to buy BDX before Brexit

I haven't been following this thread recently, and see that it got quite heated. But I do want to make one comment: Mark's dismissal of the Irish border issue is really misguided. It is central to the entire Brexit mess. Northern Ireland did not vote for Brexit. [Side note: this was one of the big f...

Was great to get back together with Ian and Maureen. Are you looking for entertaining or more encyclopedic?

On the entertaining side, "Jefferson on Wine", "Wine and War", "Noble Rot", "The Billionaire's Vinegar", "Judgement of Paris".

Encyclopedic, lots to choose from but heavy to carry.

I am a huge fan of Haut Brion, simply classic style, consistent over the years. But for me, I have had more pleasure with Latour than any of the others combined. Especially for older wines. I have far too few in my cellar, and it is the one thing I regret not buying more of when I was actively buying.

Thanks Danny. This isn't a rich crowd (the company is not known for high salaries, and I can attest to that personally), but it was a good group of people. As to the SM, I'd probably score it slightly above at 91pts. Excellent QPR, not in the top growth class though. Just solid, aged left bank borde...
