Re: BWE DC '14 Saturday 3/29 Dinner

I have 00 and 02 Cos, but both at my sister's place in Philadelphia (which I won't be able to visit before heading to DC). So if anyone is passing through the Philadelphia area and can swing by my sister's to pick them up, that is a possibility.

Re: BWE 2014 Hotel

29th street location will say "Harbour" in the description. Based on the map, it looks like it is basically on the same block as the 30th street building, but on the other side of the canal (a couple minutes walk perhaps?).

Looks like the 30th street location promotion is no longer available for those dates. The 29th street location can still be booked at 99/129.

Jeff, if you are ever in Paris while swinging through to Bdx, let me know, would be great to open some wines...

Re: TNs: California Cabernet tasting

I've bought a lot of older BV Georges de Latour. I've had fantastic bottles of 60 (just amazing, youthful, yet complex and aged, definitely CA), 68 (two bottles amazing, one bottle complete crap), and many in the 70's. Overall, they have been quite nice, with a couple of disappointments.

Pity about the 76 BV Georges de Latour, I had a bottle of that over Thanksgiving and it was fantastic.

Re: Guilty or Not Guilty?

I recently viewed some of the evidence from the trial. OMG. The volume of counterfeit wine that was being produced goes far beyond what is being reported, and even though the trial focused on Burgundy, he created an equal amount or more of fake Bordeaux. I can say with confidence that there is likel...

Happy new year to all! BWE was quite the subject of conversation last night (esp. about the 03 NYC Convention). We opened an 01 Maiden and I believe a 95 Comtesse.

Tonight will be older wines :)

MichaelP, you need a real indoctrination to Burgundy. I must admit I was a skeptic, but there are many wonderful things to be discovered in Burgundy, just give it a chance with someone that will show you some amazing things. Perhaps at BWE 14????

Re: Retailer check: Circle Liquors, Somers Point, NJ

Circle Liquor is about a mile from where I grew up and where my family still lives. It is an institution in the area, as it is on the mainland from Ocean City, NJ, which is a dry city. I still remember getting pretzels there as an 8 year old, as they would give them to kids as their parents shopped....

Re: TN: 08:.. A very BWE kind of vintage??

I tasted a lot of 08's at the Paris Grand Tasting last week, and I must admit it seems like a really nice vintage, completely overshadowed by the (mostly-deserved) hype around 09. I think it might be a buyers vintage while everyone is chasing 09.

What's up with the score though?

Re: What is your vote for 2012 BWE Wine of the Year?

I'm going to throw in my nomination from earlier this year: 1982 Branaire Ducru. This has continued to be a winner at a non-outrageous price, 10 years after it first shocked everyone at the NYC Convention. Still plenty of it out in the market. Like Spielberg being passed over for the Oscar year afte...

Re: Timmy McCracken, Maine lobster, and a 1921 Palmer....

My notes on the 21 Palmer: The fill of the bottle was at the high shoulder, which is good for a bottle of that age. The label was entirely unreadable, and the only indication that it was a Palmer was from the capsule. The cork broke, and we extracted the remaining pieces in an effort to uncover the ...

I must admit that I thought Miami was a fantastic location last time. For France, we can start planning now, although just to set expectations, we cannot ever replicate BWE 2005. BWE 2015 will be an entirely different experience, assuming we can pull it off. And we should plan to spend some more tim...
