Re: Bordeaux wines of the 1970s: NYC October 16, 2010

Hi All,

Unfortunately, I need to cancel (I was afraid of this), as some work commitments came up that I need to attend. Sorry about that. If there is anyone still on the waiting list, you can take my two spots.

Thanks,

Tim

Re: Dennis Bates

Wow, that is really sad news. This reminds me of how much BWE feels like a family, as even though I didn't know Dennis very well, it's like someone in the family passed away. RIP.

Re: Bordeaux wines of the 1970s: NYC October 16, 2010

Just to confirm, it is my guest that was on the waiting list from before, so I'm confirmed for two (me and my guest).

Still need to sort out what we are bringing.

Cheers,

Tim

every time one of these futures campaigns starts, its is an excuse to buy older wines (especially first growths, which are cheaper now than the new once are on release.....)

a Burgundy convert?

So I was in a wine store today, which was recommended by a friend of Michael P's (Thanks Michael...). [On a side note, I'd like to thank BWE, as without you, I would not have had dinner with Francois two weeks ago, lunch with Michael P today, and would not be having dinner with Moevino next week!] T...

How to make wine

I ran into the attached link on a wine mailer from my company. It's an interesting guide for how to make your own wine if you have a vineyard.

Enjoy.

Re: Your ''unexpected gem'' Chateau

I think it must be Branaire Ducru, especially after the 82 that we had during the convention. Another would be Lascombes, which was much better than expected, although wasn't as "wow" as the 82 Branaire.

Cos d'Estournel. I've tasted through old and new, and it is always an experience, usually a great one.

Re: Academie des Vins Anciens June 2010

I am still amazed at how good the 34 Gaffelieres Naudes was. The whole experience was quite interesting, and I'll have to say that the more older wines I drink, the more of a believer I become. Granted, its not possible to have a 62 Margaux every time, but certainly there are some great old wines ou...

Academie des Vins Anciens June 2010

This evening, I was fortunate enough to attend the Academie des Vins Anciens dinner in Paris, hosted by Francois. As most BWE'ers know, Francois has a regular series of dinners, known as "wine-dinners", featuring older wines from his cellar, in which participants pay according to the wines...

Re: New super Bordeaux selection in Paris (in French)

Here's my report: The store is located inside the wine shop in the Galeries Lafayette. It's a very odd setup, however well stocked. In one section, they have a number of value Bordeaux, plus the "wines of the month". This month included three different Rose's from Bordeaux, all under 10 eu...

Re: Bordeaux wines of the 1970s: NYC October 16, 2010

I'd like to add a guest to the waiting list for Oct 16, after winestory. Thus winestory is first on the waiting list, then my guest is second if there is an opening.

Thanks.

Re: Stress test #2

How about the folks who claimed a good vigorous shake was necessary to get the most out of - it was some big Ozzie fruit bomb - maybe Mollydooker? Or the ones who recommend putting it in a blender? This reminds me of the Gary Vaynerchuk tvlibrary 82 Bordeaux episode, which can be viewed here: http:...

Re: Best wine-glasses ever (for me!)

Re: THANKS TO BWE FOR MAKING LIFE WONDERFUL!

Tim did bring what for me was the most unusual wine of the event ....a high end Argentina wine that he had just picked up in Argintina on his way to Chicago.......we were guessing all over the place Thursday night but not Argentina

The Argentina wine was the 2006 Cobos Nico.

I was flashing signs to Timmy and MichaelP and others at other tables-- two fingers for wine A, one finger for wine B, three fingers for wine C. I will note that while I had indeed voted the way that Jim was pushing me, I had already cast my ballot when he made his finger signals. :) I also thought...

Yet again an incredible event, well fitting for the 10th anniversary. And starting off with the 86 Gruaud Larose toast was perfect. I'll have to say that I'm surprised that the Lynch and Pichon Baron was so close, I thought the Lynch was simply heads and tails above the Pichon. I didn't get the stru...

Re: Thursday Night - Les Nomades

I was a bit limited in what I could bring, but I lugged a couple bottles with me (they will be well traveled, having crossed three continents...)

One of those should fit nicely with the Thursday dinner, and I'm really curious about it, as I haven't tasted it yet myself.

Re: Latest details on Chicago '10

I have a question: apparently Earth Hour 2010 is happening on the 27th, and traditionally the Sears Tower is among the major buildings to shut down its lights during the hour. What, if any, will this have on our event?

Perhaps this will bring a new dimension to our blind tasting???
