Too much wine space--what should I do?
This past week I moved virtually all the wine we have in our Eugene condo into the wine room of our new house, so I now have two wine fridges and a wine credenza that are empty. What should I do? Of course, the BWE quick answer is "what's the problem: buy wine to fill them up". My problem ...

Re: 2014 Cantemerle
Historically, Cantemerle is a wine that can be drunk young.
Has anyone tried the 2014 Nameless Wine recently? Usually it takes longer to come around than Cantemerle, but the wonderful 1996 was good at age five and never weakened.

Tempier's Bandol normale is so good, I should really buy it more often. I just remember too vividly when it cost $30 to pull the trigger at $50-$60.

Ha-ha. The 1964 Haut-Brion mentioned above I first bought for $10. I would happily pay ten times that now.

1964 Haut Brion is one of the first first growths that we bought, way back in 1970. It is arguably the best of the 1964 first growths.

Lucie and I spent Friday night in McMinnville and picked up wines at Goodfellow's (7 cases), Domaine Drouhin (2 cases), and Cristom (1 case). I felt that Cristom was being left out, so I added another case while there (using my "new cellar" exemption): 2 2016 Arcus PN 6 2011 Louise PN 4 20...

Ian, I think you have more "dinners of a lifetime" in a month than I have had in my life. 1996 Ducru coming in last among three 96s says a lot.
Thanks for the (usual) great write-up.

I think that some Canadian ice wines are made with that procedure, Jacques. In the Judean Hills, they might get a traditionally made ice wine every 50 years.

Calon Segur has long been a go to wine for Lucie and me. Most recently I've drunk some 2000 Calon Segur that was wonderful, and one bottle that was corked. When I regain motivation to buy wine I'll look for the 2014.

BD, you would understand if I explained the procedure that causes that, BD. However, it would raise your blood pressure to a dangerously high level. Fortunately, the effect is temporary.

Is there a "new wine cellar" exemption? That is, if you have a new wine cellar but not enough bottles that you can conveniently move into the cellar to make it look decent, can you purchase enough bottles so that you are not ashamed to let your wine friends inspect the cellar?

Is there a "fantastic deal" exemption? When a when is available for a short time at a great price (say, 25% under low retail), or you have a short term interval in which to but from a private cellar?

If you are committed to buy due to being a wine club member, and you elect to double your order (not required, but recommended because of availability and price disscounts), does that count as breaking the freeze?

Right bank 2005s seem to be coming along well. Tonight we drank 2005 La Clemence. It is a full bodied Pomerol that is floral in the mouth, firm throughout, and has a decent finish for a wine in its class. I think it is in the early part of its "plateau of maturity".
