Re: Kudos for Harry's book

I guess it is OK to quote one sentence from The Bob's review:

"this is the book I wished I had written in my wildest dreams."

That says it all, I think.

Congratulations, Harry!

Re: 2006 Bordeaux?

The prices are tempting. But I cannot take delivery until December and I do not trust MacArthurs to hold wine for me (they don't verify the existence of what they sell until they pull it from the warehouse for shipping).

Re: First of first growths out: 2008 vintage

Lafite is my favorite Pauillac. Pichon Lalande is my second favorite. '08 Lafite is more than three times the price of Comtesse. For me this is a no brainer if I decide to buy top end '08 Pauillac (which I probably will not).

I liked Parker better when he gave LL low scores. He did that, BTW, even when writing that La Lagune was one of his favorites!

Tonight we'll celebrate Lucie's 65th (sic) with 83 La Lagune, 96 Pol Roger Brut Chardonnay, and a bunch of other wines.

Re: 1984... thoughts?

1984 was probably the worst of the last 30 years. Most wines were very hard with no fruit. Nevertheless, I enjoyed a retrospective in 2004 of some of the better 1984s. But I did not taste Haut Brion.

Down 40% is not very much? That seems an extravagant thing to say. Do you know anything else that goes down to that extent?

The American stock market. Housing prices in some American localities.

A 40% drop for Angelus does not tempt me to buy.

Great report, Pappa!

It was clear from the tastings in Jim's room that it was time to let the '05 Burgs rest. Ditto for the '05 St Innocents; that is why I brought the '06 Anden and the 7 Springs Special Selection to DC and left the '05s at home.
