Re: So what have you bought lately?

$691 tax free is a very good price for 2016 Lafite, Jim. I doubt that you could get that price at auction.

Re: So what have you bought lately?

About the same, Jim, as the 1996, and hard to get at auctions for under $900 all in. Probably considerably less in the UK at auctions; right, Ian? Occasionally at USA auctions you can get "bargains" on Lafite. My most recent purchase was the equivalent of $410/ bottle all in for the 1983 L...

Re: 2003 La Tour Blanche, 2000 Poujeaux

I drink a lot of La Tour Blanche, partly because I like and partly because it is the favorite Sauternes of a friend. I appreciate the 2003, but I am not surprised that it did not go well with foie gras. IMO, it is a wine to drink by itself or with a salty cheese or salted popcorn.

I agree, Ian.

The 2010 il Poggione is still primary, but the Bolognese sauce smooths it out. I saved some to drink tomorrow at lunch.

I thought about drinking a 2010 Bruna Grimaldi Camilla tonight but instead instead opened a 2010 il Poggione Brunello. I think it will be better with pasta Bolognese.

I wrote the above before starting to eat. Pairing the 2014 Cantemerle with a ground venison dish Lucie prepared was a good choice as the venison smoothed out the rough edges in the Cantemerle.

Tonight we are also drinking a youngster--2007 Latour a Pomerol. It is a luscious, full bodied wine with currants and wild strawberries and a long finish, but it lacks distinctive Pomerol attributes. It should be blanquitoed, I think. How is the Lafon Rochet? I am recovering from the Covid I contrac...

I liked the 2003s more than most people, and enjoyed them when they were young. Most 2003s have fallen apart now, and the 2002s are coming into their own. Even 2002 Latour gives pleasure now even if it will not be fully mature for 5-10 years. I found the 2002s undrinkable when they were young, but t...

That's $75 under the lowest retail price on WineSearcherPro. I'm guessing that it will be drinkable at age 20 and leaving its jailbait stage at age 30.

For only $300 more, you can buy the fabulous 1998 Ausone, which is already excellent and will probably improve for 20 years.
