Re: 2019 Château Bélair Monange
Alex,
Forgive me, but where did I criticize your tasting notes in my post? And rating? This with Colin Hay wasn't absolutely a comment directly pointing towards you. Now, I have deleted most of my post.
I would like to know, however, what 3/12-4 means.

Jim,
I have advocated for La Lagune for many years now. This property is an incredible value for money!
For me, 2019 and 2020 are similarly excellent but maybe 2020 is slightly more concentrated. Still, you just wait for 2022 when in bottle. It may be the best one ever for La Lagune.

Re: 2020 Troplong Mondot
Farr Vintners hasn't had Beausejour DL on the list since the 2016 vintage. Strange. Here in Denmark, TM was some 23 £ cheaper than BDL in the 2022 vintage. Both were the same price in previous vintages. BDL changed hands and got a new winemaker in 2021. One who worked with Maxime Cheurlin at a famed...

I have the 2018, 2019, 2020, and they have fabulous potential. These wines perhaps represent the best vfm in St-Emilion because the terroir is superb. And now the oak/gloss/extraction has been dialled down to sensible levels the terroir can shine through I disagree. For me Beausejour (Duffau Lagarr...

I did taste both from the barrel, but not yet from the bottle.
I can imagine 2019 being a better wine.
I will visit PS with Alex in about two week's time.

stefan, you are so right. Clive Coates was very diplomatic in his description of a wine. He overused the expression "very good indeed". If I were to grade the wines in terms of quality, it would look like this: 1. Eternal, unforgettable 2, Majestic, fantastic, exceptional 3. Excellent, tre...

Jim is 100% right. I am an enthusiastic scorer. I have been raised in wine since 1984 with a 100 p system and will not change it. My first visit to Bx was in March 1984, so this year marks 40 years since then. Alex and I will soon go to taste 2023 Bx primeur wines. We have an extremely tight schedul...

Foie gras is not salty enough, and its fatness doesn't go well with the abundant sweetness of LTB 2003.
Stefan is perfectly right for this wine to accompany salty cheeses like sheep and goat cheese. I would also pair it with smoked salmon, oysters, crab, shrimp, and even lemon sorbet and ice cream.

Niclasss, You seem to state the truth based on having tasted one wine. Try to taste both Beausejours in recent vintages, and you will know better. Yes, they are more expensive. Duffau-Lagarrosee is a great threat and almost Burgundian in its appeal. Imho, all the cries out of St. E. being this and t...

I am sorry, but I found the voting process quite amusing. It seems to me that every district has its own unique wines, some better than others. Niclasss,
You tasted wines from lower ranks.
I have actually tasted Larcis Ducasse 2006 and partly agree with your TNs, but it was not as that bad as you describe. 2006 was a Cabernet year, and Merlot failed on the Right Bank.
It would be better to taste several wines in the same vintage.

marcs, I disagree with your assumption. Oxidation is a fault with wine. It's not the same as aeration. Net positive!
I can't follow Alex in his comments.
Angelus, Pavie, Cos d'Estournel back then weren't the whole Bordeaux.
HE DIDN*T MAKE THESE WINES!
Imho, there is no equally gifted wine critic right now as him.

Rober Parker discovered Tertre Roteboeuf and Le Pin. I think Bordeaux should thank him for all his efforts. He didn't make the wine; the chateau owners did to get his applause. You guys are too hard on him. I have an utter respect for him, and for me, there is no equal wine critic to him nowadays!

Pavie Macquin is a modern-style wine that is not overdone and overdimensioned. Top St Emilion but there are many competitors.
David G,
Gentle as a lamb. It has become significantly more elegant and with more finesse in recent vintages.

Stefan,
Yes, I did, but it was meant as "some", meaning a minority of winemakers and lower-classified wines.
I remember the manager at L'Evangile telling me that any winemaker who failed to produce a good wine in 2005 should consider finding another job and not as winemaker!

JIm,
It's equal on both banks. Whites both in dry and sweet version are great.
It is also the first vintage Bordeaux winemakers began thinking more and more about phenolic ripeness.
Imho, 2010 vintage outdoes the 2005, but the latter is more than useful.
