Re: Wine Advocate-What's the deal on 2007 Oregon?

Broadley Estate used to be called Reserve and is a clear set above the basic WV bottling. Their wines feature a truly beautiful distintive fruit element that I have not experienced in other Pinots, especially on the nose. Good stuff. It appears that TWA previously awarded 90 points on the 08 WV. Glenn

Wine Advocate-What's the deal on 2007 Oregon?

I cancelled my subscription some time ago, and while surfing other sites I have seen the clamor for Washington and 2007 Rhones in the current issue, but nothing on 2007 Oregon. I am curious about Dr Jay's comments for whatever they are worth. I know this was a challenging vintage, but it is not a to...

Re: TN the 2005 Dominique Laurent Chambolle Musigny is uncorked

I used to work for an importer of Laurent, and tasted my share of them. 2000 or 2001 Grand Echezeaux was the best one that I tasted. I like the style of the wines, but more as an occasional treat rather than an everyday style. His oak overlay is a common signature amongst the various bottling, and i...

Yes Alex this wine is special. I had bid on more bottles but only won these two.

The 2000 Riesling was also captivating and resides on my wall of fame.

TN: 2002 Stony Hill Napa Valley Chardonnnay

Forget any preconcieved notions of big and buttery Napa Chards when preparing to taste this wine for the first time. The label states that it is 13% ABV and is grown at an elevation 600' above the valley floor and is non malolactic. It is devoid of any wood flavors from oak as well. I picked up a co...

My everyday sparker is Chandon from California. I see little need to spend the big bucks on luxury cuvees. The Blanc de Noir is quite tasty and is usually on sale somewhere in town for $13.99, and it is very food friendly.

Stuart, I should have mentioned to skim the fat off. I do like the melded flavors better the next day, and the chilled fat layer is waxlike and easier to remove then.

Alex I braised the shanks in a Dutch oven. This is a favorite cold weather comfort food. The hardest part is trimming the shanks, otherwise just sit back and be patient during the braise. Make sure to use a large pot, the shanks can be big. I tend to cook by the seat of my pants and hardly measure, ...

TN on a Bordeaux imposter

I was in the mood for something really good after a few stress filled days at work. I was psyched through out the day anticipating drinking this wine with braised lamb shanks tonight. I pulled the cork and was immediately greeted by a heavy cedar scent, like an aged Bordeaux. The color was still red...

I have had 1993 and possibly 1995 Araujo and they were both excellent.

Some of those 1998's will pleasantly suprise you. Maybe they just needed some age to shine. I had good results from Montelena and Lewelling over the last couple of years.

David, the alcohol level pesisted in the glass but this bottle was in no way hot in the mouth. I rebottled half of the wine immediately into a clean beer bottle, corked and refrigerated overnight, and the wine was a hair better on the finish the second night, but the nasal burn did not diminish. I am looking forward to the 1990 and did not want to have the wines compete against each other, but instead I want to enjoy each wine for its own merits.

The 1989 from 750 will probably not improve, but may hold for a couple of more years.

An enjoyable and correct Volnay, likely from younger vines, from a vintage that is drinking well now. This bottle was certainly more giving than the last bottle that I had several years ago. David, glad that this bottle delivered. I am generally more of a fan of 1994's than the mainstream, and Pomerol excelled in this vintage. This wine showed beautifully in a 1994 horizontal in NYC a few years ago.

A fine bottle after some initial funk blew off. The rich yet balanced aspect of the 99's was apparent from the start. IIRC Parker was sued by Faively, perhaps for stating that a review sample was not consistent with the bottled wine.

Parker is dead wrong about the best that Burgundy had to offer in 1993. Apparently he could not see the potential through the cloak of tannins.

I have been resting several of Girardin's Corton from 1995 and 1996. I find that Corton needs a long time to fully develop. I find it curious that some people po-po Girardin as being too modern. My tasting sample range is limited to 1995 to 2000 but I have enjoyed all of his red wines tasted to date.
