I had a bottle of the 1996 a few months ago and it closed up after about an hour. Seems kind of unusual for a 14 year old wine.

I recently sold a bottle of 1988 Lafite to an online reseller for $475 w/o any hassles.

Zachy's has a $10k minimum for Hong Kong auctions.

Did I give it away?

Hawaii Five-O, well almost

I was fortunate to have spent the 10 days prior to my 50th birthday in Maui, Hawaii. A good friend has a timeshare in Napili and we were their guests. I have not had any 2003 Savienerres but my experience with European whites from that vintage has generally shown a low acid profile. I bought a case of 1990 Montrose on futures and the 4 bottles opened so far have been clean and fantastic. I still lament the deal that Sokolin had on futures, 10 case...

I am a huge Savienneres fan, especially Baumard, but have not had any 2003's from the region. I would be concerned about low acidity as bright acidity along with the minerality is what makes these Chenin Blanc special. I bought a couple of bottles in a store in Princeton, NJ way back when and they are still resting in the cellar. Poujeaux is perhaps the only 2009 on my radar screen based upon an appreciation of their previous style. The desciption of creamy and drink over the next 10-12 years from a wine with a history of longevity in the cellar is causing me some concern. Maybe it is a monumental vintage for this sentimenta...

Yes stefan, it was the 2008. 2005 Villages Cuvee is drinking well now with some air. 2004 Shea was delish, but also needs some air to blossom, and it was a nice contrast to 2006 Dehlinger Goldridge, which was richer but less developed. I do favor Montrose and Pape Clement in 1990, however 1989 Montrose is only about 1 measly point apart from the 1990. I am happy to own both.
