Re: TN: GJE CRD 2008 and EP 2011

What's "CRD", please?

Also, in considering Rolland, Hubert de Bouard, and Derenoncourt's wines what do you think is the process by which the latter produces wines with "rounder" tannins? Is this a matter of ripeness or is it something done (or not) in the vinification. Thanks.

TN embargo concluded

OK, the convention TN embargo is over. Here are three brief notes from the embargo period. 2008 Ch. Gazin. This "hypothetical blend of Petrus and Lafleur" recalled immediately my initial bottle of the 2001 Ch. Cote de Baleau. Basically the palate is a bit harsh, dry and woody, and I might ...

LLC and Petit Cheval add new meaning to the term "luncheon claret." But having seen the lineups you guys put forth for dinner, I'd say that's about right. Or was it "bruncheon claret" and might that be a step up the food chain? You've also elevated the omelet to a new culinary le...

Anyone want to buy a vowel? (I just said that for Jim's sake. He watches every night from his BarcaLounger)

Anybody else think the word "vowel" is odd? It looks so Germanic to me all of a sudden. Vowel, vowel. But my dictionary traces it proximately to Middle English and Middle(?) French.

I confess to buying the GL right off the bat because a) I don't have any (somewhat important - although I subsequently took down some of the 2008). b) I've really liked the few I've had (highly important). c) At $55, it was so reasonably priced  (highly important, and I can't think of a less e...

Like, no way, man. (Although perhaps this is another "wine where the plus sign could be very revealing.") The brilliant 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Renaissance is 85% Grenache and 15% new oak-aged Mourvedre. Its dense purple color is accompanied by glorious aromas of creosote, crushed r...

So, Patrick, how come you haven't bought the 82 Malartic Lagraviere for $25 yet? Both these wines benefitted from airing. It seems like almost any wine will, saving two cases, 1) the super mature wine that "falls apart" (I see CT notes on many younger wines stating that the wine came apart with air - I've yet to experience this) and 2) the young wine that closes down a...

A certain well-known retailer is offering the 2008 Ch. Fonbadet, an unclassified Pauillac, at the "sale price" of $29.99, regularly $49.99. Now I find it hard to believe that anyone has or would pay $50 for this wine in initial release, and I'm skeptical the wine was ever in fact offered a...

It's too bad there are I think two dead young actors who look a lot like Gingrich. I think one is John Candy and the other is Chirs somebody - Farrell? Farley?

I think I'll call Lorne Michaels with this Bain Man thing. I'm sure he could get Cruise and Hoffman to co-guest host a Bain Man themed SNL.
