Re: Favorite non-Burgundy white wine region or grape

I like white wine more and more, eclipsing red wine for many stretches especially in summer. But I need more options. You’ll be fine as long as you avoid Gewurtztraminer  . This might make an interesting new thread — what varietals do you dislike/not get/generally avoid/consider a viniferous ...

2017 Carbonnieux Blanc
This is so good. Crisp, savory, a touch herbal, shares a lot with Sancerre. For $30-35, a world class white QPR.

Blanquito, Not surprised, recent examples (within the last few years) of 1975 Pichon Lalande and 1978 Domaine de Chevalier have been very good. Good bottles of 1982 Talbot can be spectacular. Chris Bublitz Indeed, Chris. I’ve long been a big fan of the 78 DDC and this bottle of it was going strong....

I drink so little Pouilly Fume, but I do cellar and love a good amount of Sancerre (but prices have gone a little bonkers, like in so much of the wine world).

I would hasten to add that, while opening each of these brilliant bottles, I ran through my trig tables, pondered the brilliance of Archimedes and Pythagorus, and wrote out pi to the 100th decimal place in homage to BWE’s most eminent professor of mathematics.

One of the best deals I ever got, which I’ve posted about before, was a case of the 92 Talbot on close out in 1995 for like $8-9 bottles. And I swear that after 5 years in the cellar, this wine blossomed marvelously showing surprising depth, wonderful nuance, and superb aromatics. It was cracking up...

The 85s were such a great bargain for so long compared to the 82, 89 and 90s, but around 10 years ago or so the prices really shot up and pretty much pulled even in cost.
