Wow, the $77.80 I paid (including the buyer's premium) recently looks like a steal.

The 2010 Gloria seemed big and bold, more so than in years past, when I tried it on release. I liked it a lot.

Re: So what have you bought lately?

4 x 2014 Bollinger Grande Annee ($130 at local Costco, so easy, just walk to check out and take home, no need to schedule shipping, pick up a box, spend 2-3 weeks looking for a good window of shipping weather, etc).

And who doesn’t like Bollinger tete du cuvee? It’s good enough for 007 afterall.

Great, I’ll probably bring the Percarlo then, which I’ve been waiting for the right occasion to try for a while. if it’s even 75% of the level of the 85 Percarlo TomW brought to BWE Denver, I’ll be delighted.

Not really a purchase, but I just swapped 3 bottles of a very overdue prearrival order, 2019 Marc Colin St-Aubin La Chatenière, for: 4 x 2014 Roederer Brut Champagne 2 x 2020 Louis Michel Chablis Vaulorent They gave me double credit for the screw up on the prearrivals, and praise for the Roederer (9...

Are we leaning Nebbiolo here or are the great wines of Tuscany fair game as well? To wit, I could bring the ‘99 Percarlo or the ‘99 Roagna Paje Barbaresco.

Is Haut Brion the most “old fashioned” First Growth? I got that impression when we visited there in 10/21. (I’ve not visited Latour but I’ve seen photos). Definitely not meant as a criticism, but the contrast with Chateau Margaux — with its modern vat room, futuristic, sprawling underground bunker, ...

On the Right Bank, I fully concur the 85s are equals to the 82s, but I am not quite sure that is (or was) true in the Medoc-- as lovely and nuanced as the 85 Left Bankers are, for my palate they never had the power or depth of fruit of the 82s.

But like 82, 85 was strong in every commune.

Great write-up and what a wonderful way to end a dry month! Like most everyone, I am a big, big fan of the 85s and I've had many terrific bottles of the 85 Canon and 85 Beychevelle, it's a shame your bottles did perform like they can. I would note that the rate of TCA I've experienced with the 85 Ca...

Sure, just add a bunch of tartaric acid and viola, the wines still seem fresh! I’m not directing that at the 2019 vintage per se, just in general. On same basic biochemical level, you can’t have high alcohol and high acids wines “naturally” (I put that in quotes because on some level wine making isn...
