That’s a bummer Nic. A buddy of mine has the same problem and has moved to using a Coravin quite regularly. Something to contemplate if MC doesn’t come back to the big red dark side.

Chef Nic!
Great notes on DdC, also a wine I have rarely drank over the years, but did order some 19 last week. The moose roast looks amazing, it must have been fabulous. Hard to get down my way in any form.

The little voice in my head saying 'no, thats my favorite... no that's my favorite...' This is a bit like asking which of your children do you like the least!
I have a similar view Ian, very close groupings lead by St Julien and Paulliac, but with St-Estephe right up there!

Nice enablement BD! I've got a planned order from Saratoga - adding Cantemerle to the list, at that price it's hard to beat for the quality.

Re: Poll: Was Robert Parker a net positive or a net negative for Bordeaux?
For me, this was a bit of a tossup. I agree with Gerry - his early days in the industry provided a lot of additional transparency to consumers about wine making, the quality of wine and moved the needle on information availability from a very few reviewers/negotiants too much broader general access....

2015 Haut Brisson - Nicely surprised how well this is doing given it's humble price. Medium to full-bodied, surprisingly concentrated, on the nose cassis and black/blue fruits. On the entry hint of cedar, earthy with diced herbs. Tannins are quite present, and offering nice structure.

Me too Gerry, the 'cleaner' GL is very good, but is missing a little something from the old school vintages. I too have a few 2000s, might be time to pull one and see if the secondaries are on par with those 80s bottlings.

Now that’s a legendary lineup (of BWEers) …. And those wines are amazing too! Great notes Ian, I’ve only had a few of them but your notes bring them to life. It’s clearly some BWE magic that every bottle was drinking great - it’s got to be some sort of Benevolent Dictator super power .

Boy, this is punching above its weight. After a couple hours in the decanter, this is fully in bloom, and ready for business. Red fruit, cedar a bit of cassis and a hint of menthol. Still plenty of structure but the tannins are nicely integrated. No rush to drink, but man this is drinking well right...

As Alex points out I remember being early concern for that vintage being the wines being flat and flabby. In the end, bought wine from the more clay soil areas on the left that retain more moisture from St Estephe, Calon and Montrose. At least for me, this is really a tale of 2 wines which is curiou...

Having “How’d” a case and a half of the 96, it was terrific young. After age 15, it didn’t quite have the same gravitas it did in its youth, no argument there Ian.
