Some wine notes from the last week

With duck breasts in a pomegranate sauce, we drank 2006 Texier Cote du Rhone Brezeme ; lovely smell of dark cherries and coffee grounds, texture is a little chewy and the wine is a bit rustic, but the structure is excellent and the fruit fresh and vibrant. I loved this. With fresh pasta in a ragu of...

TN ITNOS 2006 Gloria St Julien

With seared rib eye, a green salad and corn on the cob, we tried a half bottle of this yesterday; quite nice, dark ruby color, chewy texture, the nose is not giving much but the wine is still very young. It does have enough fruit to age a couple of decades and gain complexity. It is not on par with ...

If there is room for this event, please count me in. I know i have a 89 Montrose, but someone is already bringing this, so i'll find something else. I think the event is closed but there's a waiting list Emil. Ian can give you details, but I believe Jay (Mr Vino) and SteveH are already on the list.

Thanks for the notes, I love the descriptions; creosote... horse sweat...tomato leaves... old library. Really fun to read. On a serious note, I have had some of these wines; the 2002 Mondavi Napa about two weeks ago and it's a shadow of what it showed a couple of years ago. The 1987 Mondavi Reserve ...

Two Bordeaux almost thirty years apart

Saturday with homemade duck confit we opened a 2004 Latour Haut Brion. I understand it's the last vintage of this wine as it will be incorporated with the first or second wines of Haut Brion or La Mission. Nice dark color that looks vibrant and shiny, smell of Cedar and stones, taste is delicious - ...

Very funny Nicolas, I was thinking yesterday about Grivault and how I never had his wines. At my party last week Michael Jessen and I were saying how much we have both learned about Burgundy from Yak Shaya's site. So I went on his site his week and was looking at Meursault producers and saw that Gri...

We went to Craft yesterday; Tom Colicchio's flagship restaurant in Manhattan and found the 2005 Patrick Javilier Meursault les Tillets on the wine list for only 2x retail (everything else was out of sight). The wine is served way too cold at first and is giving almost nothing, it opens up after a wh...

TN 1997 Mikulsi Meursault Charmes

Color is deep yellow, the wine is fully evolved with tropical fruits, almonds and peaches. No minerality (not that I expected much in a Meursault). Vibrant and still fresh with good slightly oily texture. Decent finish. The wrong wine/food combo; we had a shellfish platter, some ricotta gnudi and a ...

We'll probably call him this week, Bill. We had a nice dinner and drank the 2007 Petit Castel; a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Very nice with plum flavors and a nice bitter finish, a little too young but the wine list was pretty mediocre. The wine specialist was quite annoyin...

I don't think any car company has a "right to exist." I believe that they have a right to a fair and level playing field. One can argue that the US companies are saddled with huge legacy costs and there may be debate about how much of that is the responsibility of recent mgt vs unions etc...

I love my Ford Fusion; much more than the Honda Accord and Lexus GS we also own. Probably the best handling car I had and I used to own Volvos, Toyotas, Saabs and Audis. The new Ford Taurus is supposed to be great.

Ford is an American company that does have a right to exist!

Recommended by Pappadoc, the 2007 Bere Viticcio is a Tuscan red bursting with vibrant fruit, juicy and easy to drink but with enough backbone to stand up to some tender strip steaks. For $12 or so it is a great bargain, do not age but serve lightly chilled.
