I am also not a big fan of the 1996 La Mission, Stefan. I sold the remaining 11 bottles I had after opening the one a few years back. I have my doubts as to when (if ever) this wine will be accessible.

Re: tn 2000 leflaive puligny pucelles

I thought it was the Combottes, Nicolas because I don't remember buying any Pucelles in 2001. I hope you will enjoy it as much I did. I think Leflaive is biodynamic, whether that has anything to do with the fact that their wines are rarely hit with premox is beyond me (though that should not stop me...

Re: tn 2000 leflaive puligny pucelles

Hi Nicolas, Yes, I opened it with Jill, it is a much better wine when shared that way :) For me Leflaive's Pucelles is the standard by which all other Pulignys must be judged. I can enjoy others, of course, but this wine has a certain effect on me. Unfortunately, due to some family obligations, we w...

tn 2000 leflaive puligny pucelles

Oooooh what a gorgeous wine! With scallops for an appetizer and pan roasted cod as an entree, this was a great bottle. Awesome nose of white fruit with a hint of smoke, and on the palate an oily and vibrant entry with minerals and then layers of fruits with a strong structure. A rare combination of ...

Funnny, Jim. :D I never thought it was Langoa. I still don't get ACB even after the explanation and Jacques statement that the explanation made him blush. Arthur was just kidding by putting his initials and his opinion just after: RMP saying "buy 2003 RB" is a bit of news, is it not, I don...

I admit to also being confused with the various initials. Are we all that busy that we do not have enough time to spell out the words? I eventually got the EP and would have remained stumped on the ACB had Arthur not explained (I did blush afterward and had a chuckle when he did explain). However, L...

Re: TN: Le Mesnil, '05 Jadot, '00 Cristia

I usually dislike the smell of apples in Champagne; I keep thinking the bottle is oxidized. I remember a few years ago we had a Pommery Cuvee Louise and it took a lot of effort by Pappadoc to get me to focus on something else in the Champagne than the apples. Everyone else though seemed to enjoy the...

When Pride downed the Mission

Served side by side at dinner with friends yesterday a 2000 Pride Reserve Cabernet and a 1999 La Mission Haut Brion. Very easy to tell which is which; the Pride is all tannic fruit with cassis, chocolate, and a very expressive nose of berries. The LMHB is shy and retiring; smooth and elegant but no ...

We did coincidentally drink a 2000 Ch Gloria two nights ago at the end of a long tasting of Alsatian wines (the masses were clamoring for red wine the way some carnivores clamor for red meat). It was showing rather well and was a very nice wine, just short of outstanding (sort of an 88-89 points ra...

TN: 1996 Gloria St Julien

A gift from a famous boulevardier; this is a delicious wine; dark color just a bit light on the edges; cedar and earth on the nose, the tannins are still not fully resolved but the wine is still excellent. It has a fine structure and an elegant texture, with a lot of cassis and sachertorte, a little...

the 1994 Leoville Barton has been exceptional. Way above its class in this vintage. Certainly better than the 98 and very close to the 86. I have a few 1994 Bordeaux as it is my daughter's birth year. We have tasted the LLC in March 2007 and it was still very tannic and closed. At the time, I thought it needed at least 5-10 more years. A terrific Barbaresco: 2000 Cortese Rabaja

WIth a tri-tip grass fed steak and lemon mashed potatoes, the wine started thin and acidic but in no time (about five minutes) opened up beautifully. Nice shiny color - somewhere between ruby and terracotta, the nose is not too pronounced but on the palate it is delicious: Bright, pure and focused, ...

Could it be that 1988 was the last year for the classical left bank Bordeaux? It seems that the wines have turned more concentrated in subsequent years.
