Re: A historic royal BWE visit to the Great State of Maine
I apologize if I said something during our meetings last week that triggered this, I thought we were all having a wonderful time but I apparently misread the situation. Thank you for a lovely time in Maine. Thank you for the lobsters, the wines, the hosting, and especially thank you for taking time ...

Re: A historic royal BWE visit to the Great State of Maine
I think it's important to keep some facts straight if we're going to the mattresses on this. The previous issue was a 1982 event not a 1989. The distinction is important as there are more 1982 fakes than any other vintage I'm aware of. It took place in 2012. Over a decade ago. I really was under the...

The 170 Krug was the Krug of the weekend among three lovely Krugs. The 171 is out in NH at the same price, if there are any left if/when they go on sale I’ll pick up more. Jacques and Stefan bought like more than a dozen between them. Au revoir to the Teyxxans and Floridians…. Until next time! Flyi...

Re: A historic royal BWE visit to the Great State of Maine
I really don't think you have a reason to be upset. Ian and Patrick came to NYC asked if we are available and we did a BWE dinner. The next day they were invited to a non BWE event and went to that one as well. I don't think it was their place to invite anyone to the non BWE event, since they didn't...

1st night 168 Krug with cheeses, Jim brought great cheeses sourced from fromages.com; some Brillat-Savarin, Brie de Meaux, and Comté all delicious and great quality that is hard to find in the US, even at reputable cheese stores like Murray's. The Krug was excellent as always. Fresh and vibrant with...

Ok. Wow!
Incredible lineup of bucket lists or last wish wines. Very nice. The only comment I have is that the food at MP Taverna was excellent the two times we went there years and years ago (I think it had just opened)

Re: What's the best way to get from Bordeaux to San Sebastián?
There is a train, it is more or less direct and takes 4 hours. The reason I say more or less is that you need to change at Hendaye (Irun) because the tracks in Spain are different from France. Here's a blog about a trip from Paris to San Sebastian (the Paris train stops in Bordeaux Saint Jean), good...

I don't understand your comment, you have been a member since the beginning, since 2009. Interesting, I love Loire reds and find they are enjoyable young as well as with a few years.
But it seems that the sales guy was wrong, it is not a quaffer but a serious wine with (as you say) a lot of tannins and serious grip, can it age? Should it age?

Danny, it sounds like this is the time for me to challenge you to a golf game. If I want to open a Bordeaux once in a while, I do it with grilled lamb or beef, then open something old school such as Cantemerle, La Lagune, Calon Segur, Lafon Rochet or what Chris said: Labegorce or Prieure Lichine, I make sure to decant in advance, use big stems. Oh, and I would stay away from r...

The only Bordeaux wines I've had in the last 3-4 months were at the NYC BWE.
Embrace the change and drink:
Rhone
Loire
Burgundy
Tuscan
Piedmont
Campania (Aglianico)
Etna
Rioja
Ribeira
Ok, if you insist, then Beaujolais also.

Re: I have a wine that I am going to declare the best vintage of, I'm holding off buying it until I get back from vacati
Nice score, Ian. Not the normale, but I did pickup 3 magnums of the 2014 Sociando-Mallet Cuvée Jean Gautreau for $90 each in March (ex-chateau). OrlandoBobby was singing the 2014 normale's praises high and low (when it still was available in stock for only $28), so I figured the Cuvée Jean Gautreau...

Re: Just call me the white Burgundy man....
Every 2017 white burgundy I’ve tried has been so good. 2014 (rightly) gets tons of love, but I think 2017 is just as good. And in my humble opinion every vintage of White Burgundy since 2014 has been great except for 2015. And Niellon 1ers going for >$150 a bottle is extremely painful. But when Mug...

I have had Beaudry a few times and always liked the wines. I do think they need to age. Maybe le Domaine and Les Mollieres are to be drunk on the young side, I can't tell. What I noticed in the area wines was that unless you are familiar with the producer, there are a lot of mediocre harsh wines. i ...

Interesting concept serving wines blind in a restaurant, Alex. Do you choose the food and they decide on what matches best? Not very clear from the Tripadvisor description. I don't think Ive had a premoxed Fevre since 2002 David. I don't always drink them young, either. A 2013 Bougros a few months ago was delicious. Fevre is excellent imo, not on the level of Dauvissat or Raveneau but still up there as a close second on par with Louis Michel, Billaud Simon and Lavantur...

At a bistro with a mediocre wine list in the city of Rennes we had the 2019 Chateau de Parnay Saumur-Champigny 'Clos du Chateau' with steak tartare, roast chicken and good fries. Organically grown, this was a delicious Cab Franc, dark almost inky, chewy and crunchy dark red fruit, nice aromas of cass...
