Re: Bordeaux in DC @ Convivial - Dec 4

Current day Figeacs are out of my price comfort zone, but I had a few from the mid-80's and a single bottle of the 1990. I may have told this story before, so apologies if I have. I took that bottle of 1990 to a restaurant that allowed BYOB. I asked if they could decant the wine and they explained t...

Jim, if you had purchased 12, it would have been free shipping! But glad you are in the hunt to check this out. It's out of my price comfort zone, so I will need to learn from others' experiences.

Re: What are we drinking in the booster boon?

With a porchetta style roast pork shoulder, I opened a 1999 Laurent Nuits St. Georges Vaucrains. After a 2+ hour decant, it was beautiful. It has taken forever for these 1999 Laurents to come around, but they are finally becoming really really enjoyable. I'm looking forward to the few mixed bottles ...

Sounds like a lovely trip, Alex. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've drunk sherry in my life. I think I need to change that. And Spain is an area we hope to be exploring in the coming years. So thanks for the "travelogue."

12 X 2015 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino - less than the 2016, and will drink sooner.
12 X 2018 Felsina Chianti Classico Rancia - either for my old age, or my nieces and nephews. :)

Re: Saturday at the Convention

Saturday evening was an over the top evening of wine riches. I'm not sure I am able to really do much of a ranking. When most everything there has been rated 95 or higher by critics, you have to get pretty granular to make much of a distinction. I tasted two Champagnes, the 08 Bollinger and 96 Dom; ...

It was great to get back to a BWE event for the Friday dinner. What a wide range of wines; I did not take any notes, but I will try to at least recall what I tasted. Thanks, Joel, for planning and organizing this. I thought the venue was really nice for a gathering like ours, and the food and servic...

I saw that Vinous review, but did not look closely. Personally I bought zero bottles of 2001 because I spent all my "allowance" on 2000 futures. I know many here have spoken positively about 2001's so I will be interested in any comments from those who have experience with both vintages.

Re: BWE DC 2021 - Themes?

If it is one of the OK bottles of 86 Ducru, it should be lovely. But many were flawed back then because of problems with bret (I think) in the winery. I bought 4 bottles and at least two were flawed. One of the bad ones was a bottle I brought to the 2016 BWE gathering in DC.
