Re: 2015 Ch. Lalande, St. Julien

two hours in and the nose is opening up. More floral and herbs.

The wine also is opening and softening. Very pleasant.

2015 Ch. Lalande, St. Julien

My grocery store has a better than average wine selection including California, Oregon, and France. My daily drinker there, when I drank daily, was a Kermit Lynch Cotes du Rhone. My interest was caught yesterday when I saw this 2015 Ch. Lalande from St. Julien. Never heard of it, so I bought it. Ch ...

Re: John "PappaDoc" Dawson

My condolences to JackDaw. I never met PappaDoc but I've shared a bottle with JackDaw. You can usually tell the quality of the man by how well he raised his children. You've done good PappaDoc. Rest in peace.

Re: If you had to save one Bordeaux from your cellar...

To answer you question, 1975 Lafite. Not because it's my best/most valuable wine but it was a gift from the senior partners when I passed the California Bar in 1978.

2001 Sociando Mallet

The 2001 Sociando was popped and poured, no decanting. This bottle was close to maturity but has many years left. Good balance, medium bodied. I found no cedar or leather components on the nose. Blackberry, earth and herbs on the palate. One glaring element is the presence of green. I don't know if ...

Today's map shows Loxton at the frontline of the fire. At least it is a defensive location, unlike the foothills.

Re: Mo's Sonoma House is no more.

Since much of the fire (I believe this was the Nun Fire, there about 7 or 8 fires in the area) was around and above Glen Ellen I also wonder how Loxton is doing?

Mo's Sonoma House is no more.

Maureen just posted on Facebook that her parents Sonoma home was destroyed by the fires now raging there. Many of us spent more than a few wonderful evening there drinking wine and telling tales. BWE actually had a wine event there. Good times. Mo, if you read this, I'm sorry for the loss suffered b...

Re: Is the 2012 vintage a modern day 1985?

I think it is an under-appreciated vintage. I've been buying a few bottles of Rauzan Segla for aging but it so good young that it's hard to keep my hands off them.

Re: BWE Sacramento Cadre Sep 17

First, many thanks to everyone who attended the BBQ. It was great fun and wonderful food. Thanks to Ed and Glenn for traveling some distance to attend. Arv notes are hard to improve upon, so just a few comments. The 1970 Lafite. Little if any fruit left, just structure and even that was not much. It...

Re: TN: Rauz(s)an Segla et al

Too hot for Bordeaux probably means we had to eat inside with the air conditioner blasting as it was 102F outside. I agree, it's only too hot if you are drinking the wines outside. For me the wine of the night was the 95 La Grave a Pomerol. Resolved, balanced and excellent structure. Using Arv's sco...

Re: Did we lose a generation of great Bordeaux because of RMP?

I know one winemaker of a well known super premium cab who privately confessed he read Parker and to paraphrase, he chased points. He felt most in the industry did. If it happened in Cali, I suspect it also happened in Bordeaux. In the marketplace, points mean $$$ and winemaking is an economic ventu...

Re: TN: Brane Cantenac et al

Fun night last night. My surprise of the night was Arv's Freemark Abbey a splendid California cab. I'd have to say it was my wine of the night. Clerc Milon, opened nicely but by the end of the night it lost its way. Low acidity was its weak point. Cardinale, very Bordeaux-like. Much more acidity tha...

Hey Nic, I like Malartic but I haven't tried the 2012 yet. Glad to see you like the 2012 vintage. I continue to be impressed by it. Not powerful 50 year wines, but generally well structured 20 year wines.

Re: The fraud that is Grand Puy Lacoste.

Can we say HYPERBOLE or in this electronic age TROLL. Never had a bad 1982, though not every bottle of Petrus is perfect either. It's not a fraud but it may be underperforming. Underperforming is not a trait solely owned by GPL. I do understand you don't like. That's your right. Oh well..

Re: TN:06 du Tertre [Margaux] 98 Clos Fourtet [St Emilion] et al

Thanks Arv for setting this dinner up. The blind tasting was fun though I realized how poorly I do at this type of challenge. Still the wines while different were palate pleasers. Nice to see the we (Sacramento) are finally gathering momentum towards a healthy wine group.
