Re: ****BWE SAN FRANCISCO '17: MARCH 23rd-26th****

Jim, chilly in March for Napa is balmy to the East Coasters. SF is great. Best of the hotels and dining. Those who want can easily do day trips to the wine country.

Love the executive decision and looking forward to returning to San Francisco. Now we have to start planning a few side trip extensions from San Fran. Thinking of taking some time after and driving north to Seattle then home or south to Yosemite then Palm Springs and fly home. Any thoughts from loc...

Re: RSVP--"Regrets only"

1. Beware walking the path of French Burgundies, it is full of landmines. 2. The best burgundies take an equal if not longer time to age than Bordeaux and Corton is the worst. 3. To agree and disagree with David G. Cali Cabs did not age well. In the late 90's that changed. However as David said (or ...

Re: Cellar Check and W.B.D.

I have about 175 bottles. Probably 45% are Bordeaux, 27% Burgundy, 8% Cali Cabs and 10% Oregon Pinots. The rest are ports and a few German wines.

I don't expect to top 200 bottles given my situation.

Re: This is the end...

Sounds like a plan!

Oh the lyrics of your caption are...

This is the end, my only friend, the end
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes, again

It can't be that bad. ;)

Re: TN: 96 Montrose & Cos d'Estournel [St Estephe]

Fun night last night. Glenn had to cancel because of the Trans-Sierra commute was less than ideal. 2003 GPL. Certainly this is disappointing when compared to the 1982 GPl. Still, I thought is was a very enjoyable wine. It showed no signs of 2003 heat taint. In fact it was the opposite. It was a medi...

Re: Age and Wine redux - Oh the convention.

Thanks one and all for the good thoughts and advice. I have an appointment with my Cardiologist to discuss future treatment as some have described. Had one and 3/4 glasses of CdR last night without problem (with the doctor's approval). Life is change, how we differ from the rocks.

Age and Wine redux - Oh the convention.

I just spent the last two days in the hospital for afib heart disease. Will be on meds for the rest of my life. A casualty of this is severely limited consumption of tea and wine, two beverages I love. I asked my cardiologist and he limited me to two glasses. Maybe I'll fudge just a little at the co...

Last Call, Sacramento Wine BBQ - Nov 19

On November 19, I will be having my annual wine bbq at my house in Sacramento. Glenn, Arv and I will be there as will Gene another wine lover. Any of local and SF (Ed and Michael) BWErs are welcome; wives and guests are encouraged. That was poorly presented, all BWE members are invited. The theme is...

2013 Clos Du Val Cab

Much has been written about this wine of late due to the 94 point rating. I thought I'd give it a go last night. I purchased the wine for $21. The nose was quite muted. Some flora hints and earth. I suspect with time it will be more forthcoming. The structure is very nice. Good concentration balance...

As most know Alfred and Melanie Tesseron of Pontet Canet purchased Robin Williams house and vineyard in Napa. I wonder if we could rent it out for the Saturday event and carter the dinner? Don't we have connections with him? We could also have a PC vs. Califorina opening event. Just a thought. Bill

Re: BWE California 2017

So your next big decision is location. SF: great food and hotels, fun city. Also expensive and far from the wineries. Sonoma: Great wineries, some fun restaurants, less expensive, decent accommodations. Napa: Great wineries, fine restaurants, very expensive, limited accommodations and usually pricey.

Wine and Age. A small rant.

I find myself in a wine funk. No it has nothing to do with drinking the juice, it’s buying and restocking that has me floundering. I’ve been buying since 1980 but I was never a power buyer. At my peak maybe a few hundred bottles of which 95% were Bordeaux. (I still have six bottles from 1982 that I ...

November 19th Wine Dinner

I'm having my annual wine dinner/bbq in Sacramento. Arv and Glenn will be attending, so any BWErs in the area are invited. Spouses or friends are also invited. Just contact me through the Page. The theme is Bordeaux or Cali 2000 or earlier. I'll be smoking a brisket.

Re: TN: 00 Boyd Cantenac, 12 Cantenac Brown [Margaux]

I can't add much to Arv's descriptions. I will say the Boyd was far brighter, i.e. more acidity and lighter in weight. This made it a great compliment to the meal. Nor is it peaking yet. The Brown had a fuller body without being a blob. It does exhibit youthful tannins on the rounder side. One could...

Re: TN: 03 Saint Pierre [St Julien]

I thought the 2003 SP was below par. I've had many good vintage prior to 2003. I'm glad to hear from Alex that this maybe more of an aberration rather than another wine that has lost its way. As I recall SP was made by the same folks who made Gloria.
