Re: TNR- 2009 Ch Lillian Ladouys?

Gerry,

Empire Wine has the 2010 Lilian Landoys for $21.99. I order from them quite frequently without any problems.

Re: NH

I just hit store 76 on 95 North. It doesn't look like a lot has moved. I picked up some inexpensive stuff, Charmail and the like. No rush.

And all the prices seem to be on the high end of the scale. I'll be bargain hunting but I don't plan to pay top dollar for those feeble offerings.

Go to New Wine Arrivals on their web site. It's showing the 09 Bordeaux.

I haven't bought a Brunello in years. If I want Sangiovese I grab a Chianti. Many just as good. Not as pricey.

Re: Call me Lemming. Hear my confession. 2009 Bordeaux and I

I'm not buying any of the classified growths. The QPR is just awful. I have plenty of stock from 98, 00, 05 etc. to last me for decades. I am buying from the petite Chateau's. From the 12 or 13 inexpensive wines I've tried so far, there is an amazing consistency and plushness to the wines. Great stu...

Re: How can 2009 Rhone be great when Clos des Papes only gets 95

2009 is a notch below 2007, which makes it an outstanding but not a legendary vintage. For me it's the 3rd or 4th best vintage of the 00's, behind 2007 and 2001 and possibly 2000. I haven't had a large enough sample of 2010s to speak to it but I'm hoping the wines align with the hype. These past sev...

Re: Beringer private reserve 2007

I had this on a cruise ship last week. It was $115 in the on board steak house, which I thought was fairly reasonable considering that a lot of $15 wines were priced over $60 per bottle. This is typical of Beringer PR Cabs. If you like prior vintages, you'll like this. It's a very elegant wine with ...

Re: The 2003 La Vielle Cure has been uncorked....

I popped the '03 and '05 side by side last month. Right now the '03 is more enjoyable. The '05 has a very similar flavor profile but it's tighter. Drink your '03s now and wait a few years on the '05s.

Poor retailer experience.

I think it's important to pass along retailer experiences, both positive and negative, to my fellow wine lovers. Here is a negative one. I was in Springfield, MA last Friday visiting relatives. On the way back East we stopped at Yankee Spirits in Sturbridge, MA. I've been there before and they carry...

Re: TN: 2006 Felsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva

I thought this was a good, rich wine the last time I had it a few months back but I was disappointed by the lack of acidity. Still, a good wine for the money.

Re: What are you buying these days? Me: Not much....

I'm buying lots of wines to drink but nothing much to cellar. There are lots of bargains out there and I go through lots of wine so I'm stocking up on stuff in the $10 to $35 range.

Re: TN 2006 Produttori Barbaresco

I had the 04 and the 05 during the past week. The 05 seems like it's going to be very good but it's going to need time. It's very tight right now but it definitely has enough stuffing and finesse to evolve into something very good. The 04 has been pretty amazing and open since release. It may not la...

Re: TN's: Mix of Rhones with beef

Hi Michael, I thought I recognized the name of the restaurant so I Googled it. I went to high school a few miles from there but I've never been to the place. I passed it all the time and used to think that it looked like a real dive because at the time it was located on a fairly desolate strip of ro...

Re: Top 2005s languishing on shelves in NH

I saw the 2005 Phelps Insignia there for $160 last weekend. That actually isn't a bad price these days. I used to have to beg them to hold bottles for me when it was going for $90-$100 just a few short years ago. To their credit I still see a lot of new stuff hitting their shelves but less and less ...

Re: Top 2005s languishing on shelves in NH

Jim, I agree and it's hard to fault NH on this. So many experts were touting the 2005 vintage. If they hadn't brought in the big guns we as consumers would have complained. But now they're stuck with a lot of overpriced wine that no one can afford. I'm actually hoping this doesn't affect them too mu...

Re: Top 2005s languishing on shelves in NH

NH doesn't readily lower prices on most items due to the aforementioned low markup. These puppies are going to be living on the store shelves for a long time to come. The market changed and they're going to have to take a loss on these if they're going to move them. State governments don't like to d...
