stefan, I guess I'm basically saying I don't have a favorite sleeper or QPR estate. I'd accept Lagrange, La Lagune, Branaire-Ducru, Sociando-Mallet, Poujeaux, du Tertre, and many others mentioned as qualified for the category, but I would never decide which ones to buy without tasting. Yup, adding to the confusion, ala the St. Emilion "Grand Cru" v. "Grand Cru Classe"... The wines aren't selling well because they don't compete on price on the international market...nothing more, nothing less... Might help sell within the country -- the French seem to be all abo...

After at least a half dozen tastings of each significant vintage of Latour in the 1980's (i.e, fewer samples of only '80, '84, and '87,but I've tasted all of them at least a couple times), the 1983 comes across to me more as the harbinger of mediocre things to come than a monster. Re: Anyone tried the '06 d'Issan or Duhart, and 2007 Germans?

Patrick, If you think the 2007 Germans are too sweet, just adjust your frame of reference. It seems to be a great vintage, which usually means that the wines are sweeter than their classification (Kab, Spat, etc.) So if you might usually buy Auslese, this could be a year to dial down to the lower Pr...

Jim, make sure you buy the right wine as they are indeed different. Both recioto and amarone are made from dried bunches of grapes, but the recioto remains sweet while amarone is dry.

From dal Forno, both wines are amazing examples -- and priced accordingly!
