Re: Cellar Statistics

About 40% Bordeaux, 16% other French, 27% Italy, 13% US. Lately, we consume more Bordeaux and US than we buy, with stocks of red Burgundy, Barolo, Barbaresco, and Veneto (Amarone) on the rise.

No worries, Gail -- I can't keep track of what we have down there, so you have no chance whatsoever! OK, so we'll bring the Leo-LC to cover Jim by putting a Delon wine in the mix and to get something "representing" from St. Julien, and we'll bring the Cheval Blanc to match up with the Auso...

Delon wines? I think we're either talking about Dillon or Delmas... It'll be a sad day for the "Fight Fixer, er, uh, Fight Lawyer" if the LB can't top Potensac and Clos du Marquis.

Well, despite Gail's suggestion to the contrary, we don't have a single bottle of Sauternes from 1989 and I'm not inclined to try a get one at this point. We'll add another red to our set -- we have Margaux (beautiful at the BWE dinner at the Chateau...), LLC, Cheval Blanc, La Fleur de Gay, or the d...

Re: Premier Cru - you be the judge!

Bill, I didn't see the data as negative. Quite the contrary, I'd guess that the 40,000 bottles or so across the Premier Cru, PC, and PremierCru entries represents a huge amount of trust on the part of CellarTracker's share of the "internet-savvy wine buying community". As SteveH said, I wo...

Re: Premier Cru - you be the judge!

Can't tell what's in PC's warehouse, in transit, etc. -- this is just data entered by CellarTracker users indicating wine that hasn't been delivered. I'd guess that the data quality is probably pretty good, since these entries are created by people trying to keep track of wines they've bought but ha...

Well played, stefan, but I'm avoiding option 2 as best I can.

Actually, the tax code is pretty clear that you can only deduct the lesser of your original cost or the current value when you donate wine to a charity. Read the "Giving Property That Has Increased In Value" section of IRS Pub 526 . Makes writing off the $40 cost of a donated bottle of '82...

The long-term gain tax rates are intended to support investments that foster economic development.
