1982 du Tertre

This was a house not at the top of their game in 1982, so I only bought one bottle long ago for a series of tastings that never materialized. Fill was mid-shoulder (very bad for the age of the bottle) and the cork pushed in as soon as I touched it with the corkscrew. Not good signs. First few sniffs...

What? You were in Denver for even 45 minutes and didn't check in? Buying a fully refundable ticket to anywhere is still the way to touch base during a layover.

Hi Stu! Yes, those classics can just get hum-drum, can't they? At the risk of being banned from BWE for lack of taste, I'll tell you that we drink a lot of Turley (Zin and Petite Sirah from old vine vineyards) and Bedrock (lots of field blends a la Ridge, again with old vines) with grilled meats and...

Thanks to Krista and Patrick for a Great Weekend in Denver!

Head Southeast on Welton (left out of the driveway entrance on Welton) to 16th Street, then head right on 16th. Fairly generic eateries along 16th St pedestrian mall. Go left on Larimar to find Rioja (tapas), Osterio Marco, Bistro Vendôme and TAG - all quite nice.

82 was a great vintage for Leo-P, and I think 89 and 90 are vintages where Leo-B and -P were of comparable quality, albeit very different stylistically. I give the rest of the vintages of the 80's to Leo-B on my card.

Interesting. I always found Leo-P to be pretty mediocre through the 70's and most of the 80's and thought Leo-B was performing very well over the same period.

Tim, SF Ed, DavidG, and primarily stefan have already said nearly everything that I might have contributed here. Maybe the 30 year point is the very best for wines made in the last thirty years (which might make it a low point relative to history) , but 50 years has always been my sweet spot for goo...
