Re: 2015 Produttori del Barbaresco

It probably isn't that earthy or rustic in absolute terms, BordeauxNut, but relative to Bordeaux, to an all Bordeaux all the time palate, I can easily see the perspective.

By the way, what do you mean by solar vintage? That's not a term I've encountered before.

Re: Quick notes on some recent wines...

It doesn't actually sound like "If someone disagrees that's OK" when so many F-bombs are flying about. Put me in the group think crowd - 2003's just aren't what I expect *from Bordeaux*. Lots of good wines? Certainly! Typical? Nope. A recent 2003 Cos with a couple of BWE'ers was delicious ...

Re: 2015 Produttori del Barbaresco

One of the best if not the best wine co-op in the world. It won't have the classic bouquet of roses and tar yet (and it may never get the tar due to changes in winemaking) but a floral nose followed by dark fruits (cherries and plums) would be my expectation at this point. Barolo and Barbaresco seem...

Re: BWE DC gathering tonight

Looks like a great night! 1989 Lynch is what it is, and 1989 Montrose is one of the best wines I've ever tasted, better even than the highly regarded 1990 but I'm still kinda old school. I concur that many white Burg producers are making wines that don't need bottle age. Regrettably, for sure, but p...

Woo hoo! 1989 thirty years on is a great theme. Almost as compelling as "1982's are over the hill" at BWE NYC a while back.

Folks More than that come to the EU zone everyday. Probably true for the US as well. No good measures of such activity in either space. Re: English Lady's Recommended Order of Which Vintages to Drink

I'd say Jancis has indeed Perth Pink'd any unlisted vintages. We might not be able to understand this as BWE'ers, but a less focused wine lover might suggest that there are years where one's wine budget is better spent on other regions. (I can clearly see stefan scratching his head over this. No, no...

Re: The 2005 Vintage -- how good is it really?

Despite opinions to the contrary, I find age 12 to 20 years or so to be a bad time to be expecting much from most great vintages of Bordeaux. I seem to recall folks giving up on 1982 at around the same age because the wines weren't changing from their primary fruit profile from release and some of t...

Blanquito - I don't think the Comte told us what he paid for the Tig's.

That said, it's a favorite of ours and one we always look for when we're in Italia - usually a steal versus retail in the US.
