Re: A busy summer, a revisiting of 2015 Giscours.

I love my work. I’m a criminal defense lawyer. This is what we do. I love taking on the impossible cases, thinking outside the box, and winning them against all odds, on behalf of all different characters in personal predicaments that usually seem hopeless. The job allows me to buy more Giscours. I ...

Re: A busy summer, a revisiting of 2015 Giscours.

Indeed, David, it is one of the craziest cases I’ve ever seen.
It has actually garnered some national attention.
As crazy as it sounds, he is going to be elected district attorney... but only, of course, if he’s a licensed attorney.
We live in interesting times.

A busy summer, a revisiting of 2015 Giscours.

It has been a non-stop summer of trials, just got done a three day trial defending a district attorney candidate in disbarment proceedings, I think he's going to dodge a(nother) bullet. http://www.mainepublic.org/post/disbarment-hearing-begins-district-attorney-candidate-accused-sexual-misconduct#st...

But you're also right that the shit hits the fan sometimes, some BWEers come and goes, we get elegantly wasted sometimes, some can raise the volume, we're irrespectful with some critics, but even with all that, we don't take ourselves too seriously, we're humble wine lovers, we would talk about Bor...

I've been tied up in some big trials in recent weeks, will post more soon.

Re: The 2015 Chateau Giscours and others

Well, yes, but doesn't that get to my point. I mean, when i say a wine "is" great, I'm not just gauging it at this point in time. I'm sure the 2015 Giscours "will be awesome" when it has more age on it in 15+ years. But isn't it awesome "now" because of that fact, becau...

Re: The 2015 Chateau Giscours and others

I'm more enthusiastic about the 2015 Giscours than Nicola. I agree that it is "big" but it has everything we look for in Margaux. I'm more in tune with Neal Martin and Jeff Leve who rate it 96 points and call it "the greatest Giscours ever," "the best Giscours since 1961,&qu...

2016 Ridge Geyserville... Best ever?

Stellar. Loved this wine. Youthful and decadent but not over the top, young but had a balance and lightness on its feet.
Great fruit. I'm glad I have 11 more bottles in my cellar, I think I'll drink one bottle per year over the next 11 years.

2015 La Dame de Montrose: Charmingly Uncharming.

...That's not really an accurate title, This is a VERY lovely wine. Would merit first label status. You don't get any sense that this was treated as some sort of second effort. I rarely drink a second label. But Montrose, which I love, is priced out of my range. Discard all this nonsense about St. e...

You should never base your conclusions, CV, upon a quick small pour among dozens of wines at a UGC tasting.
You need to spend at least an evening, over several hours, with one bottle.
And even then your impressions are limited.

Re: I'm going to make a bold statement about the '15 Malescot...

It is a touch too sweet. Okay, that's a minor negative. But I'm not finding any of the intruding alcohol and rough-and-tumble tannins of some of those other 2015s I've been drinking. This has the typical earthiness, mushrooms, Margaux berries of this estate, deep, brooding black/ruby, yeah, throw in...

Yeah, I think it is more of a style thing David. Don't get me wrong, all of these wines (with the exception of my one experience with Cantemerle) have been excellent wines. Re: The 2015 Barde-Haut has been uncorked....

I do indeed, stefan. I think this 2015 will be fine, it just seems like the alcohol is not as "hidden" as in some other vintages. I thought the '14 Tour St. Christophe was great because i didn't experience as much heat as in the '15, which was also delicious but marked by ever-present high...

Good, but not my favorite Barde-Haut. Too alcoholic. I like the 14, 12, 10, 05 better. Has good stuffing but too Parkerized. I have 5 more bottles in my cellar but I won't buy any more. Give me the 2012 over this any day of the week. Just too tannic and acerbic. I'm quickly coming to the conclusion ...

Now this is much more like it. Serious stuff. Much smoother going down. The only concern I have is about the heat. Still early though. Tannins present but not unpleasant. Need to monitor the alcohol. Tour-St.-Christophe-like. (Of course, I liked the '14 Tour St. Christophe better than the '15.) The ...

Harsh, oaky, out of sorts. Okay, it's young. But I've tasted many a new release, so I've got some reference points. It is BIG, unbalanced. Damn, it was downright mouth-puckering. Very tannic.
