I’m sure there will be opportunities for Thursday night wine dinners in the DC area before the big events on Friday and Saturday.

It was quite an event, many thanks to Joel for putting this together. Great to see wine friends in person - great to see Joel and Eric and Marcus and others. Marjorie and I enjoyed joining this party. As to the wines: I enjoyed all of the Champagnes, they were all very different from each other. Onl...

They have the 2008 Taittinger Comtes at MacArthur in DC - it’s $199. I bought 2 bottles. Haven’t tried it yet. Others who have say it’s fabulous.

Blanquito,
Ruinart dinner at Marcel’s in DC next week with 2010 Dom Perignon and Krug Grand Cuvée thrown in to make everyone happy. Only $350 per person! The one last week sold out as soon as it was announced so they added another for next week.

More Champagne with some friends across the street from a food truck - really wonderful Taittinger Prelude Grand Cru nv and a Vilmart Rubis nv that didn’t impress me as much as previous bottles.

I was completely unaware of this. Had some really wonderful experiences with the 1970 and 1979 Giscours. Only vintages I’ve had since those are 2000 and 2009 - both seemed good but a bit young.

Another great BWE Zoom. The Champagne, I was drinking was Andre Clouet Rose NV that is made from 100% Grand Cru Pinot Noir, 10% of which is still red wine. Very flavorful but a bit on the dry side. I thought it was well worth the $50 price.

Jim,
I thought that for an obviously abused 38 and a half years old bottle that 1982 Lynch Bages was pretty good - I’d give it about 92 points. Some recent ratings on Cellar Tracker have been 95-97.

Interesting thread. A few thoughts - I have had universally good experiences with 1985 Lynch Bages, 1989 LB is always very impressive but some bottles have been a bit closed (too young?), not as much a fan of 1990 LB - some bottles were out of balance or a bit flat. The 1986 LB is really rocking the...

Speaking of 1979 Bordeaux, it has been one of my favorite vintages for a long time. Margaux, Palmer and Giscours (of course) were fabulous in 1979. Lots of truly great 1979 Pomerols plus a few excellent St. Emilions. And then there all those fine 1979 Graves/Pessac wines like Haut Bailly and Haut Br...
