Re: Xmas wines

Nice report marcs. I bought a buch of 2105 Cantemerle and have been popping them right and left. No complexity yet but I agree the nose is great and the palate is solid.

Re: BWE Saturday Convention Notes/Pics/Vids

Awesome report Joel. Thanks for taking the time. A nice holiday present for the group. My top 5: 85 La Miss 82 Gruaud 86 Talbot 98 Angelus 90 Baron The 89 Lynch was my biggest disappointment. It wasn't corked or flawed in any detectable way, but it wasn’t anywhere near expectations. I left it in an ...

2019 Vieux Chateau Certan
2019 Rauzan Segla

I think in Jim's absence we should pick something outrageous, just to see if he swoops in with a BD edict at the last minute.

Maybe Meiomi Pinot Noir - that's about as anti-BWE as you can get.

Re: 2019 St. Emilions

Welcome back JD! Long time... I've only tried one 2019 so far, but I bought a fair number so I'll be watching with interest. I ended up with almost no 2019 St. Emilions. They pegged my over-ripe meter harder than any other commune back in the day, and I've been wary ever since. So of course the one ...

Nice line-up and report! Despite TominDC's best efforts, it took me a loooong time to warm up to Italian wines. Still not a big Sangiovese fan unless it's blended with Cab. And I do like Nebbiolo.

Opened the 2005 Pavie a couple of nights ago. Here's the note as promised: 2005 Pavie : Going through some 2005 right bankers. Was overwhelmingly disappointed by the Bellevue-Mondotte and thought I'd better check in on the Pavie. Cellared since release. Pop and pour, drunk over 2 days. Dark purple t...

Bellvue Mondotte is Gerard Perse made just like Pavie and in 2005 both received the magical 3 digit score from Parker’s Richter scale, so why don’t you instead try to sell or consign them as they do have value to others. And then you can plug the dollars into something that won’t make you cringe wh...

Danny, I don't think these were heat damaged, but anything’s possible. I think this is just a hot, overripe over extracted mess. 2005 Bellevue Mondotte and Pavie

I bought a lot of 2005s. They are all over the place. This one is not a wine for drinking. This is a wine for laying down and avoiding. 2005 Bellevue Mondotte : Cellared since release, perfect cork and fill. Pop and pour, sampled over 4 hours. This has gone from “feh” a couple of years ago to “yuck”...

Re: 2021 Turley Juveniles

That’s interesting as I would categorize them in exactly the opposite way. I find Turley wines enjoyable in their youth as they are high octane, ripe, juicy black fruited and peppery nuanced that can pair well with BBQ. The several times I have aged them I have ended up with pruney / raisany messes...

JC, I hear you and understand where you're coming from. From my perspective, selection of wines that have been in the market for a while makes sense for BWE. It's part BWE's BWE-ness. Great to see the gang again.
Saturday WOTN for me was 1985 La Mission Haut Brion.
Other standouts were 1982 Gruaud, 1986 Talbot, and 2002 Krug.
Plus another 20+ excellent wines I had a chance to taste, and too many others to get to.

I had a couple of bottles of 1947 Borgogno, one at age 70 and one at 75. They were the red capsule original bottling, not the black capsule bottles reconditioned at the winery. I stood them up for 2 months prior to opening. Corks were soft but came out intact with a Durand (highly recommended). They...

Nice buying. I've had the 16 and thought it was beautiful, as was the 15.

Surprisingly, the 14 was really disappointing (nothing like the 15 or 16).
Good to hear. I was thinking give it 5 years before trying. Sounds like it’s already drinking well.

Very interesting. I wonder what impacts the end result more, average temp, number of spikes, magnitude of spikes? Or if each has their own different effect. Or how the vignerons respond.

1970 Conseillante would be my first choice.
1983 Comtesse would be my second choice.

Of course, no great wines, only great bottles at this stage.
