Re: BWE '18 Saturday night dinner at Charlie Palmer.

I have been honored to have the 1986 Mouton about 4-5 times over the years and it has been consistently amazing every time. It rivals the ‘89 Lynch as my greatest wine ever. It’s hallmark is the finish. I’ve never had a finish on any other wine that even comes close to it. It literally numbs the ner...

Re: BWE 18 Extracurricular Activities: March for Our Lives

It was a great day here in Washington yesterday, every one of the kids up on the stage was articulate and forceful, some of the moments quite poignant. The 17 year old girl from East Los Angeles who had lost her brother, the 11 year old girl with the wild hair, and MLK's granddaughter (wow, what a n...

That was a wild night last night. The Friday night dinners tend to be more raucous than the Saturday night affairs, but this one was up there. We were in a small but comfortable room and the service and food were again great. A big thank you to Marcus for setting us up there. I guess the sommelier d...

BWE '18 dinner at Black Salt

Well, so much for pacing myself. The Quebecois Contingent met me at my room, where we uncorked a 2002 Pol Roger, which was its usually consistently smooth. We then traveled to Black Salt, the seafood restaurant adjacent to MacArthur's, where we were led to a back room dinner organized by Chris "...

Great time tonight at Black Salt, we had some great wines, including a bunch of Palmers and Ridge Monte Bellos and d'Yquem.
The '99 Margaux vs. '99 Palmer flight was compelling.
Great to see everyone!

Re: It's cold as a bastard.

The sun is peeking through here at the Chesapeake House rest stop. It really hasn’t been that bad, a couple slick stretches at the southern end of the Jersey Turnpike but otherwise the roads have been pretty well maintained. Plus there is greatly reduced traffic. Knock on wood, I’m hoping to be in D...

First snow came at 10:10am Chris, about a half hour south of Hartford. The drive to NYC was smooth, light snow, no accumulation. I crossed the GW Bridge at exactly noon. It’s snowing but not really that bad in the NJ Turnpike just south of Newark. The snow is not accumulating, although there are sli...
