And I’ve just about had enough of the far left as well. I thought you like Bernie? I also think Bernie would have won in 2016, but Bernie screwed up. Re: The most underrated Bordeaux — Chateau Gloria

I haven’t followed it closely, but my impression is that Gloria was priced more like Cantemerle and du Tertre (and yes, Branaire Ducru) until recently. Leoville Barton, GPL and wines of that ilk have always been a good bit more expensive.

Re: 2016 Sociando Mallet

I was in Trader Joe’s and recalled Marcus said they had the 16 Sociando in stock, so I grabbed one for a try as it was not at the UGC. Overall, I agree with Marcus’ impressions— this is big and ripe for Sociando, not showing any telltale green notes. I found it less tannic and astringency than his b...

When this sad, sordid reaches its crescendo, there’s an excellent chance that it will all boil down to the integrity and wisdom (assuming he has any) of John Roberts.

Of course, this all assumes Putin let’s Trump lose in 2020.

19 years later, I still can’t believe how docile we all were in 2000 after the Supreme Court stopped the recount and stole the election for Bush. Re: President Trump

I read a thoughtful, informed article about what’s likely to happen on Nov 7th if Trump loses the election, especially if it’s close. We can be sure he will howl at the moon about voter fraud and he’s very likely to egg his supporters on to violence in the streets. I’d bet the farm he refuses to con...

Yes I like it, but don't think its particularly cheap any more. Their label remains beautiful as always! Yes true, prices have crept up. The most underrated Bordeaux — Chateau Gloria

Sipping on a lovely, cool fruited, minty-herbal, high toned 1996 Gloria with dinner. Quite Graves-y in profile and simply delicious. Fully mature to boot, but will hold here for a long while. Many inexpensive claret have (at various times) received beaucoup online love — Sociando, Lanessan, Lafon Ro...

My 2000 SM have shown a lot of variability over the last 3-4 bottles, a couple were excellent and the other two were super green. Too green. I believe it was Orlando Bobby who posed the question if the 00 is getting greener with age, and some bottles sure seem to be.

Re: August fast coming to an end with 2014 Brane Cantenac.

Like virtually all things in wine (and life?), the right amount of a given characteristic — rusticity, fruit, brett, green, tannin, acid, alcohol, even new oak — is a good thing while too much (or too little) is bad. The rub is always that one man’s balance is another's affront.

Really thoroughly enjoyed a 2000 Brane Cantenac not all that long ago, as Arv and I discussed. It was around the 2000 vintage or maybe the 1998 that Brane began its renaissance. I bought some 05 and 09 too.

Hard to go wrong at $8, Jacques. But I’d temper expectations, looking for a clean, balanced, 90-point chardonnay with a little bit of extra depth. If you enjoy it more than that, so much the better!

I see, Patrick. Also you do not pay capital gains tax on wines you consign that way. Very wise. Re: So what have you bought lately?

How do you get a 15% discount at K&L, Patrick? Easiest way is from auction proceeds— if you take store credit instead of cash, they waive the 15% seller’s commission. So I think of it as 15% off what I’d pay if using cash. Not bad for dumping wines I have outgrown (eg post-2001 chateauneuf du P...
