Are we buying the 08 champagne hype? I’m hearing best-since-1996.

Prices for bubbly are much, much better in Europe. I might have to bring some back.

This. I was lucky enough to enjoy a bunch of 90 and 92 white burgs at peak, and they are unique.

But I still think even young white Burgundy is special.

I've only had a a few wines pre-mox that I was cellaring, just the 2005 Carbonnieux blanc and a few white burgs. I know its silly, but not having been burned much by it I keep letting my white Burgundy (usually chablis) age a little. I have had a bunch of chablis from Billaud-Simon 2008 and 2010 ove...

2014 Neillon Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St-Jean

Had another bottle of this tonight from the stash Bill and I split... best bottle yet, fantastic expressive nose showing more mature nuances (note to self: beware the pox!). The palate has deepened a lot since my last try — still quite bright and racy, but the mouthfeel has thickened and the richnes...

And the Medoc is one thing, but nearly all of the many wonderful right bank wines from 82, 83 and 85 (excepting an 82 Cheval Blanc in London last year which was preternaturally primary) are either fully ready or need attention soon. Not had any Petrus but I’ve tried most of the rest. Of course, many...

I can’t roll with you guys, but the (few) first growths I’ve had from 1982 definitely have more legs — Ian brought an 82 Chateau Margaux to an 82 horizontal in NYC that was super young and needing time, whereas every other wine was at least fully mature and in the zone, though that was now 7 years a...

Love both the 82 and 85 La Lagunes, given correct bottles. But there’s definitely been a significant uptick in the last 5 years or so where my rate* of tired, dead, and flawed bottles from 1986 and older has really jumped, while in comparison 89 and 90 Bordeaux still seem vigorous by and large. Let the lord and saints be praised! I for one, I’ve had faith in the 95s, though Job-like, the faith was pushed to the limit. The 96s had the Parker praise and they’ve always been wonderfully aromatic in a way that the taciturn 95s never were, but unlike 1996, the 95s are strong on both banks and of...

Huge, huge Dylan fan. He's my desert-island musician.

But I've seen him in concert 3 times (all in the 90's) and each show was a big letdown, two of them were downright bad (short, mumbly, low-energy).
