Re: 2012 Les Hauts de Smith

I wish I knew how to get some copies of those pictures printed up, I'd like to send some to SHL, Corbin, and Pontet Canet with invitations to do tastings as our guests in NYC or wherever when they are in the US.

Re: 2012 Les Hauts de Smith

Indeed, Ian, that was a magical late afternoon/evening at SHL. I'll never forget their humble hospitality towards us. I'd like to see if we could do something with the Cathiards, Anabelle, and Alfred here whenever they might be stateside.

Re: TN: TNs: fantastic line-up for Ted's birthday in Fort Collins

I am not shocked by the performance of the 1980 PLL. I remember the winemaker at Mouton years back, must've been at least 15-16 or more years ago, they asked him, what are your favorite vintages? And without missing a beat he said, oh, 1987 was great, and 1980 was excellent, and 1984 was one of my f...

There you go… A 91-92 point St. Julien classified growth for $20… That about says it all about the 2002 vintage.

Re: The 2002 Chateau Gloria has been uncorked….

Indeed, Stefan, that 2002 offering was so unexpected, I wasn't fully processing what was happening in real time. And of course they didn't put everything out on the floor when we were there on Friday. I mean, if I had known they had Leoville Barton and Clerc Milon at $29, and Palmer at $39, I litera...

Re: The 2002 Chateau Gloria has been uncorked….

I don't even want to look at cellar tracker to see what the average score is for this wine. I'm sure it is 87.2 or some such nonsense. Look, I'm Jim How, I know I have a palate that doesn't overlap with everyone's. But I'm telling you right now. This 2002 Gloria is… Glorious! Absolutely beautiful. M...

13% alcohol, restrained, cedary, drinking very lovely at the 14 year mark. This just hits the bullseye for me.
And of course… Kicking myself that I only bought 5 bottles of this at $24.99.

mmmm this is a beauty, you are right, Patrick, it is a lot like the 2002 Branaire. Very St. Julien, cherry, 2002-styled, I love this style!

A bottle from the famous MacArthur's 2002 heist.
I started to take the sale sticker off but I figured I'd better leave it on for posterity….

yes i've noticed petit village seems to be appearing in futures offerings.
i mean, this has been a pretty weak wine over the years, no?
so there's a new winemaker. so everything has turned around overnight?
i'm skeptical.

I've been wondering that myself. Interesting post Arv, and timely, at least for me. I've been very attracted to the Zachy's 2015 pricing. For example, I don't see how I reject Cantemerle 3L at $149. And there are numerous other Zachys 2015 offerings that are very competitive, in both larger and smaller formats. (got my three 2010 3...

I'm concerned that you may be right Patrick. They're just not as "interesting" as in the 1980s. I'll probably pick up 2-3 bottles of Pape Clement, I think it's $82ish at Zachy's. That 2012 Clos Marsalette I had recently was perfect to the point of boring. The 2012 Barde Haut struck me as s...
