For some reason Marcus your note made me think:

Insignia = golden retriever
LMHB = border collie

Not that either wine was a dog...

Re: Are older wines more likely to be corked than younger wines?

I agree with Glenn and JC. A corked wine is corked from the get-go and will have its effect on the wine regardless of age, though how obvious that effect might be could vary. And the industry seems to have significantly reduced the percentage of corked bottles.

The Saturday dinner is a definite go, so go ahead and make travel and hotel arrangements. Hampton Inn at 901 6th St NW is close to Charlie Palmer and reasonable. I planned to ask for money in February once I have all the details ironed out but I’ll be away, so probably March 1. Love the 1998 theme. ...

I don’t always drink super-Tuscans, but when I do, I drink Tignanello. I like Sassicaia, Ornellaia, etc. but they don’t wow me enough to buy them. As to the aging question, I agree with Harry. The good ones, even if "modern," will still age well. And I certainly wouldn’t let one Italian Bo...

Awoke to 7 degrees F, winds still howling but not as fiercely as yesterday. Low of 3 predicted tonight but less wind. At least we avoided the snow.

Maybe mild stuff for you Down Easters and Canadians, but more than I’m happy with.

Antoine, I like Bordeaux older than Jim does. Most of those I'm interested in start to drink well at 15 years. At the time, the dire predictions of excessive heat and "scorched" wines scared me off of 2003s. Jancis' take was more nuanced and turned out to be more accurate, but it wasn’t encouraging either. I purchased very little. Pichon Lalande since it is a perennial favorite, and Cos and Pavie b...
