Re: Premier Cru files for bankruptcy

See PM. The trustee has been aggressive in pursuing not only straightforward claw backs for preferential treatment, but also in pursuing paybacks for fraudulent conveyance going back years and using math that doesn’t add up.

Re: President Trump

The Mike Pence rule is ridiculous and denies women (and to a lesser extent men) opportunities. It is sexist in and of itself and not that far removed from some of the extremist religion-driven social conventions I find abhorrent for their disregard for women's rights. Men, especially powerful men (n...

I’ve only had the 2005 that I can recall, and I liked it. Agree with the comments that it was not rustic, but still of Margaux. A good demonstration that fruit is not necessarily a flaw.

Re: What Gives a Wine Length

I like your answer Jacques. The same combination that can make a great wine can also make a wine of great length. And that combo is terroir and winemaking skill. I might add vineyard management skill as well since sometimes that can differ from winemaking skill.

Re: What Gives a Wine Length

Terroir is an interesting answer. Great terroir can produce wines of great length but also short insipid failures and everything in between. It depends weather and on decisions made in the vineyard and winery. So it might be a necessary but not a sufficient factor. Are there any wines of great lengt...

Like Danny I also think ripe fruit is a necessary component but not the entire answer. Maybe dry extract or tannins or something. A winemaker would probably be able to give a better answer.

I think it good if you source the Champagne, David. MacArthur's has a reasonable selection of decent Champagne for under $150. Happy to do so. Then everyone can concentrate on bringing Bordeaux. In the past I’ve kept it to under $50/btl to keep costs down. The difference shows, which is important t...

You’re tempting me, buddy. 2016 futures are available at MacArthur for a few dollars more. And this is a 2016 that is likely to be drinkable while I’m still young enough to enjoy it. My concern is that it will be too low acid or flabby. Jeff Leve says drink at cellar temp to keep in balance. How did...

RMP's retirement and sale of the WA is indeed what started this slide. The problem there is with management. They’ve made one customer-unfriendly faux pas after another and have demonstrated an inability to retain good writers.
