Re: So what have you bought lately?

Nice score on the ‘10 Belair-Monange, Ian, and glad to hear it is really good and drinking well already. Makes me all the more pleased with my pick up of the 2011. I haven’t tried a bottle of the ‘11 Magdelaine yet, figuring I’d wait until it turns 15. If I had a case, I would definitely try one as ...

Re: So what have you bought lately?

What’s that Brittany Spears hit? Oops, I Did It Again? She must have been singing about wine buying freezes, I presume. To wit, I am now the proud owner of a 6 pack of the 2011 Belair-Monange for the low, low price of $71.50/each all in. I wasn’t going to bid on this lot, but then I saw Gilman’s 96 ...

This was, without a doubt, hands down, the worst buying freeze in my sordid, checkered history of failed freezes. The only consolation is the thought (hope) that Stefan and Nicola are proud of me in my failure!

I usually much prefer Geyserville, not because I don’t really love Lytton Springs, but because I think Geyserville is/can be truly transcendent. But just when I am ready to put all my chips on Geyserville, I have a bottle of LS that reopens the debate all over again.

Is BWE ready for an Oregon convention? I assume so! Plus with Stefan Jr et al., you'd have a home-court team of participants/helpers. Ideally, we could time the convention to enable day-trip visits to wineries as well (how's mid-March for visiting the Willamette? Nice enough weather? Wineries open ...

As K&L still ships to Oregon, you can designate your open cellar space to serve as the BWE K&L repository (to be collected at the Oregon Convention in 2024 or 2025).

Re: Finally: 2014 VCC Versus 2014 La Conseillante.

I agree with the BD and DG, with one added thought: I regularly see the pattern where wines that were significantly cheaper on EP lag behind more pricey vintages in the secondary market, probably just because of “sticky” prices that economists talk about. Also, it’s easier to sell initially cheaper ...

1975, rather than 1986, could be the (more ominous) comparison for 1995, though the better 95s aren’t anywhere near as hard as the 75s. But I actually like (liked) some 75s in all their goth glory. Alex, it is indeed the age-old question of fruit v tannin. For some palates, these wines might be considered at peak (at least how they drank on day 2).

I cleaned the rest of that private cellar out of their 95s:
-6 x 1995 Pichon Lalande (bringing the total to 12 bottles)
-5 x 1995 Ducru Beaucaillou (to a total of 10)

And another bottle of the 02 Delamotte BdB to round out a case.

Private cellars are great: No shipping, no sales tax, no guilt!
