Re: My 2014 Bordeaux inventory, and a question....

And that is an insane array of SKUs of 2014 Bdx but I thought you had way more 2014 Clerc?
Lol.... Yes, I DID have a lot more Clerc Milon.... Now I only have one sealed case left.
Same with the d'Armailhac.

Re: Bordeaux 2020 Southwold Tasting at FarrVintners

Indeed, RC, I think that about says it all. We had the 2014 and 2019 side by side with Nicolas Thienpont when we were at Pavie Macquin in October. The 2019 was "better" in the mini vertical, but the 2014 was a reserved beauty that would undoubtedly be rewarding during the course of a nice ...

Re: Bordeaux 2020 Southwold Tasting at FarrVintners

It is indeed great that it will help to depress prices but what I get a kick out of is that they seem to be amazed that 2014 is not some big profound 100 Parker point vintage. These folks underrated 2014 from the get go, now their opinions seem to have undergone some journey that has led them back t...

Well done indeed, Bill, that actually sounds like a nice cabernet dominated Pauillac from 2004, I think it may be time to crack open my case of 2004 Pontet Canet. I'll hold my 2004 Lafite for a while. 2004 + Pichon Lalande + birthday celebration sounds like a pretty nice night. Interesting that you ...

Re: TN: 2003 Pontet Canet

I remember we had a tasting with blanquito in NYC of some of the usual suspects from the 2003 vintage. It must have been around 2008 or so, wines like Duhart, Sociando, Leoville Barton, etc. I remember we were very impressed with the wines at that stage, and predicted a good future for them. We’ll h...

This wine raised questions in my mind about the ability to project the long term success of any vintage. I was obsessed with this wine upon release. Now, not so much. Notes like Jon’s give me some hope that it will turn out okay.

Re: TN: 2003 Pontet Canet

When it was first released it was black as midnight, voluptuous, slutty, Pauillac on steroids. And then it went into a decade of awkwardness, imbalance, a pure mess. It is the poster child of 2003 volatility. But every now and then we get a note like that from Jon above. I have none left in regular ...

Thanks for the report, Jon, I have definitely experienced the highs and lows of this wine. It was of course a BWE wine of the year, and I remember being so enthusiastic about it in its infancy. Re: The 2019 Wine-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named has been uncorked....

Despite the 14.5% alcohol, this wine is beautifully balanced. It seems very true to its terroir, beautifully margauxberry perfumed, that distinct purple color from the region. This 2019 La Lagune is not as “big” as its 2020 counterpart, which last week I rated my favorite La La Lagune ever. But that...

2019 Langoa seems significantly a step above the 2020 Langoa. Not that 2020 Langoa sucks. I rate it a solid 92 points. It is richly inviting St. Julien purple, it just seems a little out of balance compared to the 2019. Maybe it’s just that I tried the two year-apart vintages in the same week and th...

I voted net negative. I just find it hard to believe that one person, even Robert Parker, so significantly impacted a global wine industry. There are a lot of industries that have changed dramatically since 1980. A lot of products have been improved and perfected in the past 40+ years. Bordeaux impr...

Re: Poll: Was Robert Parker a net positive or a net negative for Bordeaux?

So i think Ed answered my question before I asked it, and I’m still not quite sure how to formulate it, but its kind of a compound question: Do we agree that we will never see wines again like what we saw in the 1980s, and, if so, did RMP’s influence have any role in that outcome? A related question...
