Re: IMPORTANT: ZOOM MEETING: SAT. APRIL 4, 4pm U.S. EASTERN TIME
Tim, Glad you can join in. Been quite a while but I have found 1970 Ducru to be very enjoyable. Recently (this January) 1970 Domaine de Chevalier with Olivier Bernard in DC (Embassy of France) was just outstanding. Last bottle of 1970 Palmer was starting to fade a bit. In general, I am a fan of the ...

Re: What are we drinking in lockdown?
Not drinking wine every night for sure and sharing a 375 with Marjorie means about 6 ounces which I tolerate pretty well. Partial bottles of German Rieslings (as well as some other whites and most roses) can be kept in the refrigerator for up to a week without much effect on the quality. Don’t use a...

Re: What are we drinking in lockdown?
Marjorie had two Zoom video happy hours on Friday - she drank 2007 Maximun Grunhauser Abtsberger Spatlese and 2012 Zilliken Saarburger Rausch. I had a taste of each, both very good German Riesling. Just having one glass of wine most nights so we’ve been going through mostly 375s as all of the follow...

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Only non-Champagne I’ve bought this year have been three red Bordeaux from the 1980s (of course) - 1982 Branaire Ducru, 1982 Bon Pasteur and 1986 Talbot.

Re: 2020 Washington DC - Friday night
Great evening. My favorites were the Champagnes and three Latricieres - elegant, light and airy. The later reds (which I only had a teaspoon or two each) were very good and had more flavor intensity but I wasn’t in the mood for that.

Oh, that 1982 Talbot. At a blind tasting 20+ years ago. The wine I guessed to be 1982 Latour was revealed to be 1982 Talbot.

Re: Have there been good Bordeaux made since the 80s?
Just a few thoughts: Many of the 1986 red Bordeaux wines were shut down for the first 20-25 years. Talbot is one of my favorite 1986s along with Rausan Segla. Many of the other top 1986s are really coming on strong now. Many of the wines of Saint Emilion from the 1960s and 1970s were thin and green....

I think some of the 1990 Bordeaux are at peak or approaching peak and I have had a few that were past peak. Most of the best 1989 red Bordeaux, although wonderful now, will be better in the future (like maybe 5 to 10 years). Just my opinion - feel free to disagree.

I participated in a 1982 Bordeaux horizontal in mid-January in the DC area with the Pichon Lalande easily topping all comers including Margaux, Leoville Las Cases and Cos d’Estournel. This bottle of 1982 PLL was not fading. Another bottle of 1982 PLL shared with with Rob & Susan down in Charlott...

Haven’t bought anything yet this year. Wondering if those $10-$20 Pinot Grigio, Rose or Côte du Rhône count when they are purchased to bring to a party or to bring to someone’s house. Don’t think they should because they aren’t for cellaring and are bought for some others preference.

What about a Champagne exemption. I’ve got enough still wine but I seem to keep running out of Champagne.
I will also need a two mixed case exemption for mature wines I stumble upon.

Not surprised by the good showing of the 1974 Haut Brion - Latour, La Mission Haut Brion and Trotanoy were all excellent in 1974, though many other Bordeaux were weak in that vintage. 1962 was a whole different story, many of the wines were wonderful but overlooked because of the 1961’s famous reput...
