November 19th Wine Dinner

I'm having my annual wine dinner/bbq in Sacramento. Arv and Glenn will be attending, so any BWErs in the area are invited. Spouses or friends are also invited. Just contact me through the Page. The theme is Bordeaux or Cali 2000 or earlier. I'll be smoking a brisket.

Re: TN: 00 Boyd Cantenac, 12 Cantenac Brown [Margaux]

I can't add much to Arv's descriptions. I will say the Boyd was far brighter, i.e. more acidity and lighter in weight. This made it a great compliment to the meal. Nor is it peaking yet. The Brown had a fuller body without being a blob. It does exhibit youthful tannins on the rounder side. One could...

Tim, are you going to be in the San Francisco Bay area? Better yet, any reason to come to Sacramento? I bet we could get Arv and Glenn (maybe Mo) over for a Timfest. Hoping all is well.

Re: TN: 03 Saint Pierre [St Julien]

I thought the 2003 SP was below par. I've had many good vintage prior to 2003. I'm glad to hear from Alex that this maybe more of an aberration rather than another wine that has lost its way. As I recall SP was made by the same folks who made Gloria.

Three greatest vintages

We answered the three greatest wines questions but that was easy. My question is: what are the three greatest vintages in your opinion based on experience. This is infinitely more interesting because of the dialogue between Parker and many on this board. The 89vs90 controversy or 95vs96. Then there ...

When I first started, I could buy a middling vintage of Pichon Lalande for under $5.00. So Ed, your point is well taken.

Re: 2012 Barde-Haut: Stunning.

The 2012 B-H was excellent. Arv did a note today that sums it up nicely. Young but with time and air it transformed into a special bottle, especially if you can get it below $25. True it is in the modern style, but such is life in today's wine world. I suspect it is easily a 10 year ager. Good QPR a...

Re: California '17: BD calling for historic CA vs. Bdx event

Just a suggestion, but I would not bifurcate the location of the convention. Though Napa may be more expensive for rooms, staying in Napa cuts down on the commute hassels. I do understand that some might want to have events in the City because it's a great town to visit. Just my .02 cents.

Sacramento Wine Dinner.

Tonight Arv and I (plus a few others) are having another wine dinner. The theme is Cali Cabs. This is what I know:
96 Togni
02 Bond Matriarch
83 / 84 Dominus (their 1st vintage)
03 Coutet sauternes half
and a Saxum (?) and a Kistler Chard to start.

Should be a fun event. Film at 11:00.

The same thing happened to me last September.
