Re: Premier Cru files for bankruptcy
I am not a lawyer, and lack even a fraction of the knowledge that Jim or Arv or Art have here, but I will offer this... Those who have been caught out and attempt relief via their credit card company may run into a 60- or 120-day time limit between the time the charges were processed and the time th...

Re: Premier Cru files for bankruptcy
I didn't think I had any outstanding orders and I was correct. Somebody named Arthur Patterson is owed $800,000+. Art, and here I thought that was you... I shouldn't be making jokes and it's not funny. It is real money. Apparently Art Patterson is a venture capital bigwig so who knows if that is a ...

Re: Premier Cru files for bankruptcy
Jim I don't know the answers to your questions. I don't know how to look these things up but the following information might help you find the filing and the details. It's probably available on the web. Case No. is 16-40050. The Chapter 7 Petition was filed at 1:23 pm on Friday, January 8. The assig...

Re: Premier Cru files for bankruptcy
Based on the numbers in the filing, it looks like well under 10 cents on the dollar will be left for unsecured creditors. And that's without considering legal expenses. I'm wondering whether the banks behind the credit card issuers will offer chargebacks for charges >60 days old and eat the losses w...

It was just posted late last night, but early polling favors Ponzi scheme.
Dan Posner, months ago, suggested PC had dug themselves a $50 million dollar hole. He was in the right ballpark.

Premier Cru files for bankruptcy
Premier Cru filed for bankruptcy yesterday afternoon. A few details thanks to Don Cornwell (more available on the Wine Berserkers board): They filed Chapter 7 (liquidation), not Chapter 11 (reorganization). They list estimated assets of $7 million and liabilities of $70,285,181. Secured claims are $...

Re: TN: 05 Beaulieu Comtes de Taste [Bordeaux Superieur]
I may not be keeping up. I know that late harvest, very ripe, cold soak and heavy-handed use of oak are hallmarks of the too-modern winemaker. Are green harvesting, leaf pulling, high density planting and low yields also now considered too-modern techniques? Or only if they result in high brix and l...

Agree, this was more structured with crunchy fruit than fat, ripe and fleshy. It's smoother tonight but I'll stick with my plan to wait 3-5 years before opening another 750.

Christmas dinner wines: 2000 Giscours, 2003 Branaire-Ducru
With temps on the upper 60s, I opted to grill lamb chops instead of our traditional Jewish Christmas excursion for a movie and Chinese food. I opened a 2000 Giscours and a 2003 Branaire-Ducru, and used some of the Giscours for the lamb marinade. The 2000 Giscours was drinking really well. Good body,...

Wow Stefan, 18 cases! Between the antioxidants in the wine and the physical effort in managing all those cases, you should be aging backwards. I suppose it is still possible that PC has paid-for wine on the way to satisfy some of their obligations, but it seems awfully unlikely. Jim, you called frau...

Re: Chateau Lafite 1966 - a stefan kind of wine
Nice note, Ian. And thank you for the link. I like Jamie's writing. I really liked: Peynaud is quoted as saying that great wines, tasted blind, often disappoint. It is true. Rather than suggest the emporer has no clothes, though, we should celebrate the fact that wine is more than just a liquid with...

Things are looking worse over at the Wine Berserker's PC thread. Stories of more lawsuits. It's been 10 days since the last special pricing offer has been emailed. They've stopped allowing people to convert undelivered pre-arrivals to store credit for in-stock wines. PC is saying it will take 6 week...

Arv, your memory is just fine. This is very atypical How-ish behavior for Tom. But it won't really be "pulling a BD" unless he drinks through the rest of the case, now that it's open, before the end of the year.

Re: Thanksgiving 2015, Day 4: Thanksgiving Day
Good question about pre-mox. Like you, Art, I haven't seen it in Champagnes. The acidity from the CO2 and the general less-ripeness of the grapes might have something to do with it. Champagne corks are also different from those used for still wines, and some theories about premox include corks as a ...

Stefan, the last 2001 Coutet I opened was in 2008. It was showing more youthful exuberance with more honey and less bitter back then. Sounds like it is developing very nicely. You've tempted me to open one tomorrow but the 89 Sauternes are calling as Amanda will be joining us and it's her birth year.

Re: Rimmerman on 2015 Bdx - echoes Comte's impressions
"Worst vintage of the 2000s" is both subjective and relative. Of course Rimmerman is a hypemaster and if he's got vintages other than 2002 to sell there's no doubt in my mind that commercial bias would play a role in this pronouncement. Even so, I would tend to agree with him. I've had ver...

I have not been impressed with the condition of older Sauternes I've purchased as backfills.
