I'm starting a big three week trial involving a Somali couple charged with welfare fraud next week.
It is going to be a political spectacle.

Well, ash tray yes, roadside tire I'm not so sure.
I think I "get" the roadside tar of La Tour Carnet and some of those racy St. Emilions.

Yes Emil, the 1995 Ducru was featured in that famous Wine Spectator article on Bordeaux that came out in 1998 by Suckling.
I remember we could get it for $50 on the shelf in NH but it went up in price not long afterwards.

The only one of those wines I see being under $50 brodway is Cantemerle. The rest of those wines have all been well over $50 in the past decade, even in less than stellar years.

It could very well, Patrick. That '03 was a beauty in its early days. I have one lousy bottle of the '02 left from that case. Was that the golden age of Sociando Mallet? How is it performing these days relative to 1990-2005? Seems like some of the scores of the "experts" have not been great.

12.5% in 2000.

Re: The 2000 Sociando Mallet has been uncorked....
Love this wine. Love it! So darned vegetal, classic, structured, green, spicy, cedary, aromatic, biting, still youthful, but showing us a lot at age 17. This is going to be a tough one to keep my hands off of in the years ahead. My goal is to pace myself at one bottle per year for the next 11 years....

The 2000 Sociando Mallet has been uncorked....
I finally broke down and cracked open my case. I'm liking the style of this wine, but I can definitely see how this would not be for everyone. It reveals sour cherry, spice, and cedar, with a penetrating nose. A beautiful bright ruby red. Most importantly, it is classically styled. Still quite youth...

I will buy at least a few bottles each, if they are good and the prices rational, of Giscours, Calon Segur, Gruaud Larose, Barde Haut, Cantemerle, Leoville Barton, d'Issan, etc., etc., etc. It's just another vintage in the march forward of life.

I was never impressed with the 1996 Pichon Baron. The '95 was good as I recall, but I agree it was not impressive from 1991-1999. And then a new era dawned commencing in 2000.

Yes the Geyserville that Patrick brought was nice, I think it was a 2002. It was certainly not over the hill, it was certainly a different animal than the younger Geyservilles. I'm just not sure it was BETTER than these delicious, youthful animals with their ripe, rich, up-front fruit.

Yeah, I would give it a good couple hours Gerry.
That $280 price is a decent price compared to what it is going out there at both retail and auction.
K&L had it going at retail for $399 recently.

Why would you guys let any of these Ridge wines age for any amount of time?
I'm not saying they'll become over the hill, but how do you see these $29 bottles of wine becoming appreciably BETTER?

Delicious wine, I think I prefer this by just a notch to the Geyserville because it is just a notch more understated.
This wine has everything about the 2014 Geyserville except for the almost intimidating bigness.
It is just a little more reined in. Excellent QPR at $29.
91 points.
