Re: New Orleans Rec's

With a caveat that I haven't been to NO in 5 years and a lot can change, for traditional NO/creole restaurants I liked Clancy's and Brigtsen's. On the modern side are August, Bayona, and Gautreau.

Chris, my opinion on Dom is similar. They really need 20 years to show their stuff. The 88 and 90 are killer now. Time will tell on the 02. I'm holding another 5 years before opening my first.

Patrick the 98 Pomerols and St Em tannins have softened and they are drinking well in general but are at different stages of evolution. As Ed said the Conseillante and VCC need more time. The others showed well but are likely to reward further cellaring with greater complexity. The Haut Brion and La...

Re: BWE '18 Saturday night dinner at Charlie Palmer.

Jim's using a bit of political license regarding the 1986 Mouton. It was declared the wine of the night but as to voting... Highlights for me were both Moutons with a slight preference for the completeness and lushness of the 82 over the power and finish of the 86, but I cant really argue with those...

I think you meant 1976 Yquem, not 1986, unless I missed the 1986. Thought I would start a list of wines for starters and update as people fill in. MV Krug 164eme (3) 2006 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne (2) Plenty of 1998s 1998 Angelus (2?) 1998 Conseillante 1998 Evangile 1998 Figeac 1998 Pavie (2?) ...

Despite the address, the restaurant entrance is actually at the corner of 1st and Louisiana. About a 5-min walk from the Hyatt and Liaison. Make a right on D, a left on 1st, and 2 blocks up on the right. It’s hidden behind a barrier from the March but there’s an opening at the corner. I just came ba...

BWE 18 Extracurricular Activities: March for Our Lives

Peggy and I left our hotel about 11:30 AM and walked 7-8 blocks to the entrance point at D and 7th. We then gradually worked our way along Pennsylvania Ave. towards the stage. It got pretty dense at 6th St. so we stopped there for a while before heading back. Saw Ariana Grande perform a few songs an...

I didn’t take notes and there were way too many wines to keep track of all of them, but I do remember my impressions of the Champagnes that Stuart so generously brought. The 2005 Cristal was crisp, mineral, pear and citrus, very sharply focused and my second favorite. Will it add complexity with mor...

My favorites were the 1995 Krug, 2001 Donnhoff Niederhauser Hermansholle Auslese and 2002? Prum Wehlehner Sonnenhur Auslese, the 1959 Charles Krug Cab, 1989 Beaucastel, and the 2001 Donnhoff Norheimer Dellchen Auslese Goldkapsel.

The 1924 was an Hermitage from Burgundy.

Glad you had an uneventful trip Jim. The storm had a lot of offices closed and traffic was at a minimum. We got 5-6 inches but not bad. DC weather this weekend will be unseasonably cold, with highs in the mid 40s and lows in the high 20s but no precipitation. In other words, "beautiful" to...

Roads around Baltimore were bad by noon, though the interstates should be passable. We're looking at 10-12 inches north and west of the city by morning. Looks like about 4-5 inches on the deck so far.

Re: What is your favourite vintage of Ch. Ducru Beaucaillou?

1982 bests the 1995 and 1996 IMO but the 1996 is still improving and will likely take the crown from 1982.

I can't comment on the 2000 because I somehow managed to not buy any.

Can't comment on the 2005 because mine are still resting.

So 1982 but not based on enough experience to be certain.

Nice comparison Alex. I haven't had many Malescots but I really liked the 2005 in a big oaky Californian style. Du Tertre is pretty reliable and more classic to my palate. Giscours seems more variable. I thoroughly enjoyed a half case of the 2000 drunk over 10 years or so. I was not so impressed wth...

The high en primeur prices removed the main impetus for buying early: getting the wines at a substantial discount to release prices. Marcus - do whatever you think will be easiest for you regarding payment. IMO up front is easier.
