Re: President Trump

Well, Jim, if you could prove that Cruz's father wasn't in on the Kennedy assassination you would make a good point. LOL. I've been scaring myself how expert I've become on the Kennedy assassination. (I'm a single bullet theorist, by the way. ) I say, beyond a reasonable doubt: Ted Cruz's father wa...

Re: President Trump

I'm so old I actually remember Bobby Kennedy's 1968 California campaign, and his pledge to take it "on to Chicago."
We are still a month away from the California primary.
I think Cruz should have slept on it….

TN: 2010 Brunello Altesino

Medium red color, leafy, mushroomy. Roses. It has some nice complexity to it, with lots of little nuances. I'm not finding it closed down at all, I think it's drinking beautifully right now. It has a lot of things going on, sweet candy, tobacco, spice, licorice. Very approachable. Drink it young. Th...

A handsome wine blog, Alex, with the unique Rychlewski perspective!

I love the layout and the alternate perspective on the wines of Bordeaux.

Re: Is Jeff Leve the New "Right Bank Robert Parker"?

I'm telling you, Neal's notes lack that je ne sais quoi that Parker had, I think Jeff's enthusiasm for Bordeaux, on both the left bank and, especially, the right bank, are going to elevate him in the wine critics hierarchy now that the old man has moved on.

Issue 224: Neal Martin's big miss….

I'm going to be honest… I'm disappointed in issue 224. Twenty-fifteen. This was an opportunity for Neal Martin to break out. Like Parker did with the '82 vintage. Like Suckling did in January 1997 in that article about the 1995 Bordeaux vintage. 2015 was the opportunity for Neal Martin to break out ...

Re: "How to drink a young wine," by Jim How….

Postscript: In the mid-nineties, I started to discover Bordeaux wine. We drank wines in places like Montreal, Quebec, Boston, NYC, etc., that would be deemed crazy today: Margaux, DRC, Mouton, Haut Brion, etc., etc., etc. There was one wine, early on, that caught my eye. Back at a time when I knew b...

Don't worry about whether you're drinking it too young. Just enjoy the big up front ripe tannins. Enjoy the… RIPE FRUIT! The big ...

Step Five: This should be kind of obvious, but… Drink your young Bordeaux/Brunello/2002L with a hearty dinner. With… FOOD! Drink it with a main course that will stand up to the tannins: steak, lamb, etc. By now, with the main course, you are slightly intoxicated. Hopefully there is a lovely nubile a...

Step Four: DO NOT MATCH UP YOUR YOUNG WINE OR 2002L WITH AN OLDER VINTAGE. If you do this, things will likely not come out well, either for the younger wine or the older wine. Drink the young wine on its own. Admire its sternness over a couple hours of dinner, on its own, with no distractions. Marcu...

Step Three: Now that the wine has been uncorked and the first sips taken, pour a healthy glass and give it a little air. Admire the deep, opaque purple. Take in the remnants of oak. Step Two: Pop and pour. Do not decant. If you are going to drink a wine young -- if you are going to drink a 2002 left banker -- you want the full experience. You want the tartness at the outset. You want to experience the tannins, maybe even have your mouth pucker a bit at the outset. This is not g...

Is Jeff Leve the New "Right Bank Robert Parker"?

I still have a lot of reading to do in Issue 224. From what I have read so far, though, Neal Martin seems to lack that extra pizzaz about the right bank. I'm not saying this is a good thing or a bad thing. It just seems like the enthusiasm isn't there. It seems that Jeff Leve's notes about the right...
