Re: Ordering from St. Innocent.

When I was up there before the eclipse, had a great tour and tasting. Felice was a wonderful person and very accommodating hostess. I didn't have appointment she gave me a tour. She knows Glenn and Stefan as one would expect. I pickup up my fall 2017 club pack. (2015 and some whites which were repla...

I enjoyed my 2005 volnay early, and was very satisfied. I guess I was lucky. I must admit not loving his premier crus for 2005 as they aged.

Too hot for Bordeaux probably means we had to eat inside with the air conditioner blasting as it was 102F outside. I agree, it's only too hot if you are drinking the wines outside. For me the wine of the night was the 95 La Grave a Pomerol. Resolved, balanced and excellent structure. Using Arv's sco...

I know one winemaker of a well known super premium cab who privately confessed he read Parker and to paraphrase, he chased points. He felt most in the industry did. If it happened in Cali, I suspect it also happened in Bordeaux. In the marketplace, points mean $$$ and winemaking is an economic ventu...

Fun night last night. My surprise of the night was Arv's Freemark Abbey a splendid California cab. I'd have to say it was my wine of the night. Clerc Milon, opened nicely but by the end of the night it lost its way. Low acidity was its weak point. Cardinale, very Bordeaux-like. Much more acidity tha...

Hey Nic, I like Malartic but I haven't tried the 2012 yet. Glad to see you like the 2012 vintage. I continue to be impressed by it. Not powerful 50 year wines, but generally well structured 20 year wines.

Can we say HYPERBOLE or in this electronic age TROLL. Never had a bad 1982, though not every bottle of Petrus is perfect either. It's not a fraud but it may be underperforming. Underperforming is not a trait solely owned by GPL. I do understand you don't like. That's your right. Oh well..

I'm sitting here in Hawaii reading this and, again, I must agree with Stefan, LaLagune sucks. For those who made the mistake of buying this swirl of any vintage, I'll take it off your hands - at fire sale prices. Regards to all. Sorry, it's time snorkel.

Thanks Arv for setting this dinner up. The blind tasting was fun though I realized how poorly I do at this type of challenge. Still the wines while different were palate pleasers. Nice to see the we (Sacramento) are finally gathering momentum towards a healthy wine group.

2000 Rauzan Gassies. I've had it before and liked it. This time the fruit was a no show so the acid was a bit much. I suspect it needs more time before the fruit reappears.

I noticed that the appellation of Marquax has been very rewarding. I've had Rauzan Segla twice and love it and Cantenac Brown once (like it). I liked Pontet Canet but only had a taste - enough to buy a bottle. Baud Haut and Haut Bergey have been winners.

What's wrong with 2012?

I realize that I've been away from the Bordeaux market for far too long. So I have no experience in "rating" the past vintage. I reentered the market with a few purchases this year and most were in the 2012 vintage. I've reviewed the pundits and the pricing and 2012 is an OK year with gene...

It's fairly obvious what's going on. With the deep discounters and bidding sites, hotels like the Onmi are moving their "low" prices around to various sites so nobody can make a deep run at them for the discounted price. When I bid on Hotwire I got the Onmi for $215 a night. When I next ch...
